Hi everyone,
I just found out I will be placed in Numazu very shortly and would love to hear anything about it, good or bad, from those of you who have lived or visited there. I am reading some scary things about several neighbouring cities (Fujinomiya, etc.) regarding high rates of leukemia and extreme filth. I can't seem to find any helpful info on Numazu itself (excluding Mt. Fuji).

THANKS!!!!
Very Happy

It's OK. Seen better, seen worse. 2 hours to Tokyo. Access to Fuji as you know and also the peninsula near there is interesting though the name escapes me at the moment-Izu I think. It's really close to another city. Between the two you should find what you want. One of them is on the bullet train line which is handy. (sorry it's been a few years) It's basically like alot of Japanese cities. Shopping area and restaurants radiate out from the train station.

Good Luck.

A few months back I asked advice from a friend in Japan about Numazu. She considered it a fine place for a first job in Japan, describing the Izu Hanto peninsula as absolutely stunning. I don't know much about the city itself though. I'd be interested to hear of your experiences once you get out there.

for what it is worth (b/c this posting is so late), I really loved Numazu. I lived in Gotemba briefly subbing for GEOS, and Numazu was the closest happening town with an INternet cafe! I think the japanese cultural experience is better in these medium- and small-sized towns.

I could not handle the taxes in Germany so I left after 18 months. I am at a university north of Kobe paying way less taxes;)
