Dear Freedom,
40 teaching hours a week; anywhere in the kingdom depending on the requirements of the academy; Basic salary: 10,000 SR + Food Allowance: 1,000 = 11,000 SR (tax free); room with shared bathroom; The second party will be ready to work outside working hours and in this case the payment will be (40) SR per hour.; suit and tie; The employee will have the right to recruit his wife and children after the probation period and he will have to pay the governmental fees related to the recruitment of his wife and children to the Kingdom, and their tickets.
Jeez - just how desperate ARE you? If you take this, I'm guessing VERY desperate.
What are your qualifications and experience?

They seem to be looking for a slave....if you are a slave, go for it. If you are a qualified teacher, I'd give it a pass! |

cmp: I'd review my definition of "qualified" if I were you. There are obviously many "teachers" who, apparently in a trance, keep showing up at the international airports there who feel that they are "qualified".
But, very few IMHO, who actually are. Especially if you look at any of the requirements that the recruiters publicize!
It's almost like, if you've got one of the right passports and if you've gone to uni...even if it was for Animal Husbandry, well, you're good to go "Teacher of the Year"! |

It's scary...perhaps I should have said ... 'if you have any self respect, give it a pass.'
Apparently typical 'qualifications' are not the be all and end all of what makes a teacher 'qualified' for the ME. There of course are other more important qualities that come to mind especially when working in the ME such as patience, culturaland religious sensitivity & awareness, tolerance for ambiguity, respect, sense of humor, common sense, mental stability, etc. (I know I am setting myself up here for some hardcore sarcasm... )
Basically, how positive or negative your experience will be in the ME largely depends upon your choice of employer. Choose wisely!
So to the OP, ...my advice is to give this 'one' a pass! |

I will have to agree with CMP45. However it depends on what you want. IF its the position you want then the rest is acceptable. The bright side is that you ll get paid 40 per hour for extra which is good. (keep in mind I am not an expert on this. I can tell u about UAE but not saudi.)
40 hrs is alot. you wont feel the veins in your legs. If I push myself I can do 35. but 40 OHMYGOD..but again its what you want. if its the position you are looking for then this is nothing....
However what I do not understand is that why would you be working all around KSA its shocking...
Is this a language center...but why all around KSA??? *mumbles to herself?* |

I can't believe they mean 40 hours in the classroom. It will mean time at work. |

Hi all!
Thank you for the replies. I have a business degree, a 100 hr TEFL certificate and 3 years teaching experience in the land of kimchi! (s.korea) 2 of those years were based at a Public Elementary school.
So what's the best i can expect? (paid with meals - a donkey to take me to school each day) can't be that bad?
I am not desperate, i just have no idea as to what is the 'norm' for newbies in the ME.
The company said that the teaching hours would be between 25-30 per week, i guess the extra hours are for prep time and what not.
Anyways, researched it, the company has a bad rep! So, I will not be accepting this contract or anything similar in the near future!
Thanks again for the feedback!
Freedom. |

Dear Freedom Fighter,
Please be aware that there are dubious employers who would have you work split shifts and to teach the contracted 40 hours per week (40 contact hours). This is especially true of 'academies' and 'institutes'. So, for example they might ask you to teach from 8a.m -12p.m and then 4p.m - 8p.m Saturday to Wednesday. Furthermore, the hourly rate of 40 SR is a pittance. In Riyadh you as a freelance teacher you can expect anything from 100SR to 150 SR per hour. Mind you when you would find the time to freelance outside of the 40 hour contact week is beyond me.
Regards,
Abbas |
