This has been a huge issue for me recently. As part of a visa proccess I have been asked to get a HIV test (just completed) and because I do not have health insurance this meant a lot of calling around getting price quotes. There are a lot of places where a person can get a free or reduced test but try asking for paperwork than an embassy will accept...and suddenly you become some sort of elitist.

Sohniye, which embassy is it? Other than a blood test report with the final results and your name on it, what paperwork are they requiring? |

Ah the paperwork had to be properly dated and the medical authority clearly stated. It's for Russia so it had to be less than 3 months old. I got it done this weekend so it's ok.
That being said, without getting overly political, it's absolutely sad that 45 million people in this country do not have health insurance, most of whom work and pay taxes.
In one way I am kind of lucky as if I had any massive emergency I could seek tribal healthcare, but I know that isn't possible for most people. |
