15th December is the last day for handing in termination notice for the academic year at HCT. Obviously this is far too early in the year for anyone to have secured a job offer for next August. For employees with family responsibilities it is fairly reckless to throw in the towel before lining up somewhere else to go. Thus people in this situation feel trapped.
I wonder if anyone knows what punitive measures are inflicted on staff who give less than 6 months (of teaching days) notice? Would you lose one year's gratuity, or all of your gratuity earned over the years? What other rights and compensation would you forfeit? Is there an HCT policy, or would it depend on the lovingkindness of your director? |

I don't know the policy, but I'm sure there's one. At HCT there's an HCT policy for every-freakin'-thing!

As it has been in the past (goodness knows what Tubby will decide next week) you can only lose your gratuity for the current contract. Previously completed contracts have already earned the gratuity. As for your director, I know that Tubby has overrruled their decisions to allow for the gratuity to be paid out - and in fact as backdated his decision to do so.
Anything is possible with Tubby and a non-funded gratuity system. |
