I was just wondering if anyone here had ever taught in Korea or in other parts of Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan...) and could talk about the differences between there and the UAE.

I hear people say that teaching English in Korea is COMPLETELY different from teaching in the Middle East, but why?

For those of you who have taught in both places, which did you prefer? Why?

Relative to cost of living, where did you make more money?

Don't know what level or age you've been teaching in Korea, but I've taught at uni in Korea and the UAE. In my experience, I would say that you're expected to be more professional in the UAE. You can get away with A LOT in Korea. I would say that in general the other teachers you work with here are more knowledgeable and expect the same of others.

I would definitely recommend giving it a shot in the UAE...don't see any job shortages happening anytime soon in Korea so you can always go back.
