Are we creating amoral students?

Interesting article from Harvard Business School

http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/6883.html?wknews=12072011

"These were simple studies, but they were powerful in showing that our ability to justify things is significantly greater if we are in a creative mindset or when we are creative people," Gino says.

Creativity is a great thing, for without it what would we have to improve? The problem is when people start to justify everything simply because they can create reasons that some people will buy into.

Of course, a lot of language teachers think we should only teach language (or help students to learn it), but sometimes it seems like something else is missing. Some students have difficulty getting out of the "cultural box" so to speak, and for people who will work in international settings, it is a bit troubling.

Do you find your students straying to the dark side?

Teach your students to use their powers for good, not evil. The chips will fall where they may.

Not all Jedi knights were good, y'know.

In Saudi Arabia, there are limitations put on creativity due this very fact. There are two sides to a coin. However, in order to know what is good you do at some point have to know what is bad(evil). It's a delicate line where one has to tread carefully lest you find yourself out of a job. Over here one has to be creatively uncreative.

I just saw this article. The design of the study seems seriously flawed, and the results do not really support the conclusions drawn by the authors. (IMO, of course.)
