Please do not put up with these agency people acting anything less than respectful to you. If they use a demeaning attitude towards you, accuse, or in anyway batter or harass you go immediately to the MOM and make a formal complaint. IF the agency is providing you housing they are given about 2,000 to help you settle in. ASK for that Money to be spent on you!

These people are hired to WORK for YOU not against you. They should be making sure you are happy, supporting you if you need help, getting your resident card for you and many other things. THEY ARE NOT DOING YOU FAVORS THEY ARE BEING PAID QUITE WELL to take care of you. You need to demand this of them. ASK on here for attorneys who will help you. ALSO realize that many people on here are agency people posing as teachers- be aware. Others do not even live in the country, and others have a special interest in promoting the company. anyone promoting an agency on here most likely either works for them or has a wife/husband working for them.

If you are not getting taken care of then demand that they give you the allotted money to take care of yourself. AT first we took the victim role but after speaking with an attorney a few days before leaving we came out on top of it all. Neither i nor my husband will be retuning to OMAN. We did meet many nice people and saw the beauty of the country but are taking jobs on the other side of the world where we will be respected and cared for. REfuse to be a victim. Don' t sign anything without asking questions, make sure you know how long you need to give notice before leaving with your ticket in hand

Interesting - so what are the recruiters being paid for? I think many people would like to know.

Plenty of rumors about that question, but no one actually seems to know for sure. More than they deserve...

some people pm'd us for details and we do not mind giving those details 1-1 but did not want to blast any certain company online. It seems that some get on here to vent and neither of us wanted to do that but rather to just make some innocents aware. When we accepted the offer we came with good hearts to contribute to student's learning

Most of all if you want to work in Oman find a way to get hired at a university directly. We have moved on and now realise what a muddled mess that was back in oman.

Our new job is great, the people are honest and kind, we get invited to homes every night. Now we found the lifestyle we wanted. Sometimes it just takes searching and not always the highest pay is what you think.

Since I doubt that you plan to monitor this website and/or your PMs forever, I think you should publicly name the recruiter and list exactly what your problems were.

Did they not pay you?
Did they pay late?
Did they pay a different amount than they said?
Did they comply with the contract?
If they didn't, did you inform the labor ministry?

It seems the last time someone named names on here the posts were dissolved by management.

It doesn't matter which agency is named since they are all only 1 mm. different than one another.
Since we have left we dont' even care now. karma to all.
while we as a couple are not purists in any respect, we try to obey the laws of other countries where we are guests. Not so with the agencies. Besides keeping much of the teacher's money for housing and other moving expenses they break the laws in obvious and more general ways.
That cfbt is arranging and encouraging unmarried couples to live together providing them with fake apts and telling them to lie to the colleges should get them kicked out. That is just wrong for a company to come to another country knowingly and willingly to break laws. This type of action betrays their poor mangement and deceit. it is not the fact of people living together that is up to the couple of course and if they want to take that risk. The govt has the right to both imprison and fine those breaking the law. In this case it may be falling on the agency rather than the couple since they are setting these situations in place.
you will not see us on here any longer as we are enjoying our new life and getting settled in. cheers mates all well wishes to you all

Posters have requested the name of the recruiter, not the names of individuals. Only when real names of individuals are posted do they get edited out.

And this is a first... a complaint because unmarried teachers have been allowed to live together. Laughing This has been happening in Oman since I first arrived there in the 80's. Even SQU turns a blind eye to it - as long as discretion is followed - meaning that both individuals had a flat though they only lived in one. While we have had dozens (and dozens) of posted complaints about the cultural and legal restrictions in regard to this activity, as I said... this is a first.

Obviously these employers are desperate enough for teachers that they are assisting them... and I have to say that this is the least of the issues with these recruiters.

So... your employer was cfbt?

Not the first time I've heard this of CfBT and I've also be told that people arrive with forged marriage certificates with the full knowledge of the management.

This is such a stupid thing to do especially when the implications for the couple can be so serious.
