|
|
I've had contact with many females heading over to KSA with Adwaa Rabia to work at PNU and since I have on the ground experience I'm having many pm's so I thought I'd post this on the board.
Very early on a male Pakistani from Australia (Mr Jordy) interviewed me and seemed nice but highly unprofessional - the interview was him ranting on about things that didn't mean much. I got the job. Top pay too.
The only contact I've ever had was with this man and a woman (Cara) - supposedly they are both Doctors. This is a 2 man team, however their website claims offices all around the world. So lying and deception is there if you look for it.
They promise many things which they can not deliver. Housing is either not ready or hurridly put together and shared with upto 3 others. Their main problem is organization. As I said - this 2 man team - can not take care of business. End result: female teachers stranded. Some where sent to Doha (not I) because they believed Visa would be expediated - it didn't work out so to bad for those teachers waiting with no pay. To bad also for teachers who signed contracts but are waiting for further steps to get to KSA. To bad for teachers waiting for Visas.
My personal experience: I was treated badly before I got there via emails with the lovely 2nd in charge. Treated badly as in she is rude and doesn't apologize for mistakes or sympathize with any hardships she puts you through. After a month long wait of being ready - visa and all - she finally purchased a ticket - incredibly cheap, like $700 from West Coast USA! However there is a catch, luggage is only 23kg max. So I paid out of pocket for luggage. When I got there, nobody picked me up. I didn't have much money or a phone. The contact numbers she gave didn't work - she lied about contact numbers? I went to a hospital and begged to use the net, the numbers on their website don't answer either. I emailed her, or them, they replied, casually 2 days later - no apology no urgency. They assured me a man was on his way to the hotel which I lodged myself into - don't forget it is near impossible for a female to do these things by herself - I am lucky I had a male friend already there - it is also illegal for my male friend to help me but he took the risk thank God. Anyway, nobody came or called the hotel. I gave up on them. They didn't email or contact me again until 10 days later. Again, casually as if nothing has happened. Luckily at this point I found a job elsewhere. I found an American company and told them what Adwaa had done - they felt sorry for my situation and hired me on the spot. I had a temp-visit visa so I was not sponsored by Adwaa as they would have me believe. The new company did not take my passport or anything like that. All they said was when the temp visa expired they would get me a real work visa through their company's sponsorship.
So 10 days later Adwaa sends me an unapologetic 2 liner email. I didn't reply. The following day I received an email saying that the police were informed about me and that I had 'run away' and that I owed them money. And that this point I was an illegal. Lies. They think I am stupid. They have no power over me. In fact they are nobody and I doubt they will be around for much longer.
Long story short. This 2 man team is not capable of taking care of the special needs of female teachers in KSA. They are unreliable, without shame, ready to lie and deceive you. They resort to threats and hold you ransom by demanding you hand in your passport - that way you can't leave them even if they spit in your eye.
Be careful, they spat in my eye many times. |

You guys need to imagine that females are not allowed to travel alone, furthermore many men and daily business needs handled by men will not talk to foreign women even though there is not specific law against it. Call it extra piety on their behalf.
This equates to Adwaa Rabia controlling all aspects of your life. Shopping, setting up, travelling, etc.
This means that your sponsor is extremely important. The problem is this company does not have the expertise, the man power, the capacity or an understanding of foreign female needs.
Now consider your options when they break any promises or even down right cheat you? You have no recourse against either one of the 2 man team's members.
Good news: KSA has some experienced, honest, profiting schools and recruiters. Seek and work for them. Keep away from newbies until they turn brown. Adwaa is still Green.
Oh and if you decide to take the risk and go with them anyway, make sure you have a back up plan if they don't come to the airport. I would stay at the airport and fly out to Bahrain the same night/day until I sort out a new employer. Bahrain has some freedoms for women, it is flexible enough for you to find a work around. And don't, please don't give your passport to these cheats. Their intention is to hold you against your will - which they suspect will be necessary. There is no law that allows them to keep your passport - but they will lie to you and say it is the law. Which company do you know that lies about the law? Adwaa does. |

Sadly the number of companies that do this in Saudi (and elsewhere in the Gulf) is high.
BTW... women in Riyadh and Jeddah move about on their own all the time. They do their shopping and visit friends... not a big deal. One merely needs to know the system. But stay out of the small towns and villages...

Dear VS,
Well, in Riyadh, anyway (and in Jeddah when I was there - but that was quite a while back) while ladies do "move about on their own" it's almost never alone. Like the nuns (used to) do, they travel in (at least) pairs.

This is from the OP on October 5th:

It seems to me that there are a bunch of trollers who comment on every single thread, even if they can't offer anything. And then, the same set of trollers hijack the thread and turn it into chat.
In this thread, check the topic, if you can't help, move on.
You guys should make a thread where you can chat all day.. call it 'I KNOW MORE THAN YOU AND IM MORE QUALIFED PLUS IM REALLY SMART'.
Ill start it for you guys, don't come out. |
Smartness is the ability to listen to those unnamed trollers (actually, there is no such word in the English lexicon). "They" never referred to themselves as being "smart"...they attempted to avoid a thread such as the one you have started.
Now, exactly where the hell did I put my sympathy???
It's like your past is always there for you. Don't expect empathy from those who would NEVER put themselves into your shoes! One lies in the bed of one's own making! |

Our long time female teacher who was in both Riyadh and Jeddah was known to go out on her own if she wanted or needed to...

Dear VS,
I think you'll admit that Cleo was/is pretty much in a class by herself (so to speak .)

Another example of a post being used by experienced people who have no need for it. Talking off topic, etc.
And VS it is against Saudi customs, and sharia law for women to move around by themselves.
If one was to arrive in Riyadh at say 12 midnight with no pick up at the airport it would be a problem to say the least.
This part is for the personal chit chat between the usual crew of the now self admitted trollers. We learned what a troller was, now learn PM - private message. Use it and leave my post for those who are in bed with Adwaa.
For the love of God. |

Sorry Ms or Mr Turk, but you are speaking of a custom, not a Sharia law. And it is only a "custom" in Saudi. And it is not required that a non-Muslim, non-Saudi follow it. While most expat women might choose to shop together as it draws less attention, it is perfectly possible for them to go on their own and some are perfectly able to ignore the rude stares and other male silliness permitted under the local "customs."
That is not "trolling" so you apparently don't understand the term. It is pointing out an inaccurate detail in your post about your totally crappy employer that no one in their right mind would want to work for...

I have signed a contract with Adwaa but to be quite frank, after waiting for more than 70 days they can now do one! I've had another job offer elsewhere and have told Cara that I am no longer considering them (and their bogus company)
When I was initially sent the contract I had an issue about my pay because it didn't reflect the teaching experience I had. I went on Skype and spoke to 'Dr Jordy' about this issue and that conversation turned into a heated argument. I was left so confused and bewildered by his disgusting and aggressive behaviour! In the end he shouted: "FINE! FINE! YOU WANT A INCREASE IN YOUR SALARY? I WILL GIVE YOU AN INCREASE IN YOUR SALARY! I AM THE ONE WHO MAKES DECISIONS HERE AND I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN CHANGE YOUR SALARY" At the end of that argument it wasn't about money anymore, it was about his inhumane characteristic. What a horrible man... |
