From what I know, the process to get a visa for the KSA takes at least a couple of months, yet I see many notices on ESLCafe for immediate hires. How does that work? Is it legal? |

Depends on how you define "legal." Will you have a legal work visa? No... like probably hundreds of other teachers, they will rush you in on the cheap on a "business visa" which is not legal for working in the country. It is not that you will be arrested, lashed, or deported, but you will be restricted in getting things like a bank account, mobile phone, car, etc... and you will have to do regular visa runs... probably to Bahrain.
Most of the old Saudi hands wouldn't consider one of these for a second, but it does have the advantage that you can leave without an exit visa... so if the job sucks, you can just leave. (paying your own ticket out, of course)

My school bring in FNGs with both. You can get a SIM and rent a car with a business visa. It helps to have an international license but that isn't always necessary.
If you haven't been to Saudi the business visa makes sense for the reason VS pointed out. You can leave whenever you want. This isn't a fun country to work in and many teachers leave. The school paid the fine for teachers instead of letting them leave after the business visa expired. |
