Hi Guys,

I'm interested in moving to China. Even though I'd prefer adults, I'd also be happy with Children.

By February, I will have gotten my CELTA degree. For whatever it's worth, I do have an Ivy League background.

Any suggestions for finding jobs, recruiters, etc.?

Thanks

Start looking on various websites. There are lots of jobs available.

eslcafe.com
en.chinatefl.com
eslteachersboard.com

February (or any time) is a good time to be looking for a job in private language schools but not universities and colleges. The best time to start looking for jobs there is in late April/early May when they begin looking for people to start in the new academic year starting in September.

If you belonged to skull and bones or any other secret society you could use that as a class discussion topic.

I recommend a mix of recruiters and cold applying via e-mail. Recruiters are a bit pushy and rely on your assumed lack of knowledge to draw you into a job. If you use them wisely, then they can truly be instrumental.

Cold calling can be heavy, but sometimes it's the only way to get a really good teaching job. The best positions I have pursued have been done by directly contacting the uni.

en.chinatefl.com goes by many names : Hangzhou Helen, CTN, China TEFL Network, Zhejiang University Helen Chinatefl Network , etc.

The experiences of myself and my friends with that organization have all been much less than favorable.

If you use the site to contact a school directly there is no involvement whatsoever by anyone at chinatefl. It's you and the school. I've covered this in other threads.

Yes, people can get the schools info off that website and then contact the school directly.

The mistake that I and others have made is to use the links in that website and then be directed to send our info to the chinatefl agency.

Chinese people have a huge boner for Ivy League schools, you shouldn't have a problem finding a job.
