In addition to the actual hours spent teaching, I'd like to know if faculty are obliged to remain on campus for a certain number of hours each day ---as is the case at an increasing number of institutions in other GCC educational institutions.

Some PMU faculty work from 8:00 until 2:00, others work from 10:00 until 4:00. Depending on the college, some professors are on campus from 8:00 until 4:00. To my knowledge, they do not have a sign-in and sign-out system like some places in the Gulf.

On the men's campus, there are night classes and some male teachers are required to work nights.

These hours are for the work week, which in KSA is Saturday through Wednesday. As far as I know, no one is required to be on campus on Thursday, but that could change as courses are added for the community.

Since the campus is quite a ways out of town, you also have to factor in a long bus ride. Those with cars have more flexibility in when they come and when they leave, but those who take the bus have little choice.

The mandatory contact hours are very accurate as posted. However, at PMU there are other Instructor activities, which do take up time.

The ever present PDU (Professional Development Unit) sessions.

Special Project Assignments, such as committee work, course descritpion writing, syllabus writing, text book reviewing, and student couseling.

The must do, coordinator's meeting or the monthly Dean's Faculty Meeting.

Of course, we do have our fun with the payroll and visas to balance out things.

I've been dreaming of a whiiiiite PMUuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.....but are they dreaming of me?

Seriously though, I'm seriously considering moving there. The main issue: is it stable (decent housing, iqama, multi-reentry visa, fair renewal prospects, etc.)? Are there folks there working on their PhD?

I've heard that while Prep Programs teach more hours than Core Program teachers, the Prep Program classes are much smaller (18-22 Ss vs. 30-40 Ss).

Hope springs eternal. If they provide decent housing, timely iqama, or any sort of fairness, then things have really changed.

Read all of the posts on PMU. Is it worth the risk?
