As for SBC, yes they are having a few issues but I do not blame them. Adwaa promised many things to many people. I know what they promised me. I thank God I didnt listen to them and did things the right way.
There are some women who were promised their own place or a housing allowance. SBC told Adwaa they housing was to be shared, however, Adwaa did not tell the women this information. I think most of the women have come to terms with this and are making a bad situation positive. They have shared Thanksgiving dinner, they go out nice outings, they have game night, whatever they can to try to be happy.
There are women that SAY they have not been paid. I cant only say I overheard one conversation with one of these women in the HR depeartment and I can say in HER case her complaint was NOT TRUE. I heard what really happend from her mouth but when she tells the story online and to other women, its not the same story.
Thats it. I dont know how long the fourm will be open but I hope I was able to shed some light on whats going on and what NOT going on. |
Muchos Gracias Lynn,
I think this confirms a lot that we've been hearing for several weeks. I have also heard that a few folks have not gotten paid and some were leaving or have already left. Not sure it's widespread or isolated cases. Also that the condition of the compound housing is not what they expected (wiring, electrics, heating, etc) and that there has been a theft. Although, it's early days yet and the compound is new with things to sort out but at least it seems they have in the end been given housing on a compound where they can cook and congregate. Good things!
So where is Adwaa putting the folks they are STILL recruiting? They have ads on Dave's and they are now contacting teachers saying travel arrangements are being made. Are these roles for PNU or another institution? Are they processing some teachers based on something (single, nationality, qualifications, etc)? |

VS, this is just for you. I am working at PNU and I am happy here. ...

Thanks Lynn... but I think it is for many people. As someone who is experienced in the Middle East, you are used to the good and the bad one finds with various employers in the different countries. The main problems seen on the ME boards seem to be from newbies to this part of the world who are shocked by the treatment - and dishonesty - of so many of these employers. It's all about low expectations, isn't it...
Glad to hear that things are working out for you.

Fernwood, I cant say what ADWAA is doing. They are not in Saudi. They are not the Employer only the recruiter. I do know what I was told. SBC SAID they fired them. They will honor all contracts from before that date but thats it.
Like I said this is what I was told. That does not mean its 100% true. What I do know to be 100% true is Adwaa made a HUGE mess here and people are very unhappy becasue of them. I would not trust them. IF adwaa was the only way a person could come here and for whatever reason Saudi is the place you want to be then use them. Other than that, I would find another recruiter.
As for people not being paid. Like I said, I only know of one person and the story going around is not 100% the truth. I know of a few people that were shorted becasue their start date was not correct or the forgot so sign in. Some people are looking to get their fees back for their visa. I dont think anyone has received that yet. |

Hello all,
I just wanted to give an update on my recent dealings with SBC and WEG. I was recruited back in October by Saudi British Center via World Education Group. I had a few snags with my visa, which were my fault, but now I've arrived in Riyadh.
I have to say after reading all of the negative stuff on Dave's ESL Cafe I was indeed reticent about accepting a position in KSA, however I have been pleasantly surprised at every turn.
The WEG recruiter was very patient with my visa flubs and didn't give up on me when there was delay after delay gathering my medical reports and other items.
SBC was very professional and when I arrived in Riyadh there was a driver to meet me and deliver me to the compound. The compound is very nice, even by western standards. Yes, they are lightly furnished, but all have been renovated with new bathrooms, kitchens and stocked with all the essentials. There is a large pool and adequate gym facility.
I have reached out the SBC many times over the last few weeks with many tedious questions and with every call they were informative and concise, answering every question in a timely manner.
I know this has not been everyone's experience, but I wanted to say that my dealings with WEG and SBC have been very positive.
Good luck. |

Hey eeliza13,
Your post is very encouraging! I've also been recruited by World Education Group and have had a similarly positive experience with them.
Right now I'm waiting for my employment visa... I'm assuming this is also what you've got. Can I ask how long it took for yours to be processed and what country you were in when you applied for it.
I'm happy to hear that the compound looks good and that your settling in. Could you share a bit more about the job and what your experience at PNU has been like? Thanks |

| I wanted to also say I personally had no issues with SBC. It is a requirement to hand in the passport on arrival but it is returned to the owner when they travel. Accommodation etc is fine |

Okay guys, some of my insight.
World Ed Group is hiring on behalf of SBC and so is Adwaa, furthermore they are hiring on behalf of Princess Nourah Uni.
So the question is - who pays higher and who has better benefits.
You'll be doing the same thing at both jobs I presume.
I have a contract, yet to begin with Adwaa - I stopped my application with WEG when I noticed it is also for SBC.
Adwaa is good. They are trying a lot harder than the big outfit - EDUCATION EXPERTS and their contract, in contrast to EdEx is so much simpler, and employee friendly..
EdEx should be a last resort, simply because the contract literally tells you that they can force you to work 48 hrs over 6 days, and send you anywhere in the Kingdom - in reality I doubt they would do this - but its there. It also says that they can fire you, with no compensation - but if you leave, you can get fined (which means they won't pay your outstanding hours - so they most likely do this).
I say Adwaa is looking good. |
So can I sum up?
SBC good
EDEX bad

| Edex will move you anywhere they want in the country, whenever they want. They have done it many times. They often do it with less than 24 hours notice so that the school losing the teacher doesn't find out until the teacher has gone to the new place. it could happen for any number of reasons. If you object, their head buffoon will tell you that you can quit if you want, pay the fine, and buy your own ticket home. He did it to me and at least 5 other people I know of. |
