I distinctly remember reading in more than a few places that this school is a school one would want to take a pass at.

I have erased my non-factual post.

Actually I haven't been able to find much. I found a total of three websites, 1 against and 2 for the school. As I said my browser is all messed up so when I try to find it on Dave's Esl Cafe i get weird messages from google.
But thank you for the information I do appreciate it.

Nightmare? Sure Rolling Eyes

I find it ridiculously unfair that people just spout-off when they have no facts about a particular school or facility. There "were" issues with this school a few years ago (such as the 8 years ago when the random information posted by "whiner" was relevant). I know more than a few people that worked at this school, as I lived in Taian just a short time ago and they were quite happy with pay, treatment, living facilities, etc.

It's best people have actual facts before attacking any school or employer. I think it's about time people take legal and professional responsibility before making accusations against anyone.

Where are the accusations? What is this legal responsibility you speak of?

Something about your (first ever) post does not sit well with me but I can't quite put my finger on it....

If you want to be a credible alternative and do more than just "posturing" then kindly contact your friends who have worked at the University and ask them to provide references for this board.
Stating that you had several friends who worked there that had no work based problems is no more credible unless they are verifiable and contactable and will actually provide some details about their lives at the said institution.

Thank you for your excellent post. Welcome to Dave'e ESL! On your very first post, you certainly whipped me into shape, thank you for putting me straight. Here are those facts you asked for:

FACT ONE: The name of the school is Shandong Electric Power International School and international schools in China usually pay well over 10,000 a month, not 7,000 a month.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to work for 7K instead of 10K?

FACT TWO:The advertised rate is 7000 Chinese yuan per month for 20 teaching hours. That alone is around 80 Chinese yuan an hour. And the 20 hours a week do not include office hours, marking papers, preparing mock tests, prep time, English corner, mandatory meetings, etc.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to work all those extra hidden hours?

FACT THREE:You will be living in a non-private (shared) apartment with another person. The one place you want privacy (your own home) will be taken away from you for a whole year.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to live with a complete stranger as a roommate?

FACT FOUR:Tai'an is a very small and isolated community, not "medium" as advertised.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to live in relative isolation with difficulty in finding even the most basic living things to keep you comfortable?

FACT FIVE: The dining room and kitchen are both communal. If you like to cook, stand in line and wait for all the others to finish first. Also expect silly issues such as messy cooking area left by the other users.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to wash dishes and clean the kitchen area for others?

FACT SIX:Your apartment is on-campus and there is a CURFEW for everyone. So for the whole year, you will be treated like a naughty little grounded teenager locked up in your apartment.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to live under a curfew?

FACT SEVEN: You will be teaching IELTS courses. This means preparing kids from wealthy families to go study abroad. Teachers in this kind of work make well over 10,000 a month. And they are free to go anywhere they want and not jailed on a campus. I cannot stress this enough: You can do much better elsewhere.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to make much less than other IELTS teachers around China?

FACT EIGHT:

Your utilities are controlled by the school. This means electricity and TV and the internet. The internet will be slow, with thousands upon thousands of users (students living on-campus) during peak times slowing you down. Connection issues will arise. Lag, slow downloads, disconnection problems, you name it.

Raise of hands if anyone wants to have really unbearably slow internet for a whole year?

FACT NINE: There are in fact a lot of people discussing this school in a negative light, even on this very website. One of many examples:

http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=19073

Raise of hands if anyone wants to work in a school that other teachers have warned about?

Thank you Great Wall. I was unaware of these things. It is quite different than the way it was explained to me. I wil now tiptoe silently away from the job and hope they do not notice.
