Seeing the poll about where we all are from, I thought it would be interesting to have one about where we teach. I will include the larger, most 'popular' countries and general regions to save space.
Please include a message if you wish to specify your city and country, or would like to tell us more about your current stint. It might also be fun to tell where you'd rather be...or should we save that for another poll?
Thank you for participating. |

I suppose 'Eurasia' would fully cover it, but I'm happy enough clicking Europe to describe my location. |

I'm in Mexico, which is in neither Central nor South America, so there was no place for me to click. |

Mexico is in North America of course...not that anyone in Mexico believes it though. |

I knew that when I posted my response, but since it's a geographic, not a cultural category, it didn't seem to apply to this survey. Mexicans usually think that a norteamericano is from the US or, possibly, Canada. I wonder if they learn that in school . . . |

Speaking of what we learn in school, and a question we've asked here before, how many continents are there? |

I believe seven is the official answer to that question, but there never seems to be a lot of agreement. |

That's what I learned in school many aeons ago, but perhaps by now there's been a change in the official number. |

Could be so. Culture constructs which define what is and isn't a continent change much faster than plate tectonics : ) |

Seven? or Three point fourteen?
I also haven't voted because like Isla Guapa I pondered--well I'm in North America--but not like most people would think... I'm closer to Mexico's southern boarder, so I could choose Central America--but that's not really right... |

I've had the division described to me here in Mexico as North America ending on a straight line drawn east to west just below Mexico City. Latin America (which of course isn't a continent) begins below it. |

Apart from geographic considerations, the job market and life style for English teachers are quite different in the US/Canada than they are in Mexico. |

I've also heard that anything east of the Straits of Tehuantepec is in Central America, due to the shared (Maya) culture.
Interestingly, the ignorance about Mexico's location is widespread outside Mexico. Almost all the UK travel operators I've had contact with have Mexico on the Central America tab on their websites.
Also, at the end of Robbie Williams' concert in the Foro Sol, he announced, "I hope to be back in South America soon!"... and I'm thinking, "Well, we won't see you then, will we!"

Is North America the highest count because of Mexico? I would assume so! That's where I am, too. Best country in the world (using my own personal definition of "best") |
