I have applied to a few international schools in Japan. It was pretty straightforward ... but looking at the IS in Thailand, I'm having a harder time discerning which to apply to. Any insight into some good ones? |

Are you a certified (QTS) teacher with relevant experience?
If yes, then the best jobs will not be found by knocking on doors.
The top international schools hire only QTS teachers with 2+ years of relevant experience. They will recruit at job fairs around the world and sometimes even through specific school districts/areas. Many of these schools prefer IB experience. These schools will occasionally hire locally for maternity leave, substitute teaching or immediate vacancies. To be hired locally you usually need to know someone.
Expect 80-120K+ baht/month
If no, then it can go either way.
There are mid-range schools that hire at job fairs, but also hire locally via internet or word of mouth. Most mid-range "International" schools in Thailand prefer QTS (or at least B.Ed/PGCE/PGDE) teachers but some will take subject "experts" and people with a lot of relevant experience.
Expect 55-90K baht/month
The low end "International" schools again prefer QTS or at least B.Ed status but often don't offer salaries commensurate with those qualifications and therefore take a lot less. they almost always hire predominantly locally via internet and word of mouth.
Expect 40-60K baht/month
Unfortunately cant really name specific schools on the board (they are pretty tight on that here). Usually you can get a good idea by the salary BUT sometimes schools that pay a lot do so because they have a bad rep. And sometimes there are good schools that don't pay a lot but have good reps.
A little more info on your resume and what you are looking for would help us help you. As a math/science teacher you can expect higher salaries and more opportunities. EFL jobs are not common at top International schools, but can be found at the mid-range places if you have a good resume and interview well.
Good luck! |

Salaries at most international schools in Thailand average about Baht 40,000/Month for English teachers. Job vacancies for TEFL teachers are extremely competitive. There are literally hundreds of international schools in Thaland with most located in the Bangkok metropolitan area. Good luck in your search! |

Once again, this is simple NOT TRUE. The correct information has been discussed on this thread on on other daveseslcafe Thailand forum threads.

Please try to stay on topic. TEFL teachers rarely work at International schools. Those that do tend to know someone, have an ability and education to teach high level maths or sciences or are working at a bottom rung wanna-be "Inter" school making TEFL teacher salaries.
There are some EFL jobs at the better International schools, but not many. They pay well above average TEFL salaries (30-40K/month) but usually not quite as high as core subject teachers.
