Yet again, I will post my favorite quote from a friend (American) of my mother, who, upon learning I was going to visit Mexico City, warned me that "You have to be careful in those Mexican countries".

I wonder how many of them there are! Maybe this mother thinks that all the countries south of the Ro Bravo (aka Ro Grande) belong to a confederation of countries called Mexico. Is this akin to calling everyone who speaks Spanish Spanish?

When I returned from studying abroad in Chile, many a person said, "I bet you got some really great Mexican food down there."

uhh, there was a Taco Bell... and I heard a rumor about this one other place, but never found it...

The sad truth is (I fear) most Americans think all Spanish speakers are Mexican.

Then why is it so common for Americans to say that someone is Spanish because they speak Spanish? It drives me nuts!

Can't be as annoying as being thought to be American because you are speaking English.

If you want to wind up a Canadian, just ask them what part of America they are from. Similar to asking a Scot what part of England they live in.

Idrinkwaytoomuchcoffee: Not sure what the point of this thread is other than reclassify Mexico in N.A. but I'll bet there are far more TEFL jobs in Canada than in Mexico. If you really want a global breakdown, why not just look at the number of job ads/posts per region and extrapolate from there?

Incidentally, does anyone know why, unlike any other country or region, Korea has it's own forum? Is it just because of the numbers?
