there's heaps of schools that pay over $1500 a month plus accomodation and taxes. international schools pay from $3000 a month upwards. So indonesia isn't that bad for money!

Are there really HEAPS of schools in Indonesia that pay $1500 a month?I am not doubting your word...although I am a little incredulous.Maybe it is a VERY well-kept secret?I have never taught in Indonesia...the main reason being that it has seemd to me that most of the schools do not pay much.Most of the ads I have seen say something like"competitive salary",or "we pay a salary that will alllow you to live(WOW!Thanks a lot!!"by Indonesian standards)

Maybe the schools that pay the $1500 do not have to advertise?Is that it?As for the International Schools...well,I will defer to you on that one as you say they pay around $3000 monthly...but what are their requirements?I bet there is a lot of competition and relatively few openings.If a person has a relatively decent job making $3000 a month in this field,they BETTER hold onto it!!!

Just curious as to who is offering those $1500 month jobs...I am SURE it is not EF! Rolling Eyes

language schools such as ef. pay 4-10 million rupiah a month

national plus schools $1300 - $3000 a month plus accom.

international schools $3000 + a month plus accom + other benefits.

I teach at a national plus school, have taught at a language school and hope to teach at an international school, but I'm married with kids and int schools don't like that!

btw there's heaps of jobs available at language and national plus schools.

I think guru knows whereof he speaks. Even 15 years ago, I was making $1,500 a month working in Indonesia. And, as I mentioned before, you can supplement that - often considerably - by doing " outside work ". My director at International Language Programs ( ILP ) actually asked me to take an outside job, teaching reporters at " Tempo " magazine. It was only a couple of nights a week, about 3 hours each night, but the pay was quite good. It came to about 1/2 of my " regular " salary, and the job was quite interesting ( reporters know what's REALLY going on, but usually doesn't get put in the media ). Of course, one problem I had was that, unlike Saudi Arabia, there are plenty of ways to spend what you make there. I didn't quite break even, which is why I'm back in the Kingdom.

Most Teachers who earn a good income, live in a nice environment and work for a good organization. Would not want the secret to become public, especially on a forum like this one.

I myself would be very reluctant, considering the huge amount of Teachers, looking for such a job. I am sure there are thousands of
Teaching jobs, in Countries other than Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. That
offer the above conditions, with Organizations that don�t need to advertise
to get staff.

To get such a job, open your mind. Look for alternative sources of information, and don�t head for the well advertised Countries.

I tried that - going off the beaten track for EFL jobs.
It took me to West Africa and to Eastern Europe. Interesing but financially disastrous Now I am back where the $$$$$$$$'s are.

Remember John Dillinger. When asked by a reporter as to his motives for robbing banks, Dillinger said :
"That is where the money is."

You can get some sort of English teaching job in many places. However not many places will pay you serious money. And if you have a rich daddy to bail you out, or private means, you can ignore my advice.

England pays quite well, for me.

As for the gulf states...it seems there's good money to be had, but I've never met anyone who's become financially stable as a result of a stint there, and I'm not talking about teaching jobs either.

Miserable years wasting away in an arab backwater, you'll never get them back. Life's all about compromise. If you teach and get half-decent money in nice surroundings, you're doing OK.
