I knew teachers who had been there for 20 years - with degrees in Modern Foreign Languages - who could not read the numerals on a car number plate.

I had to know the numbers when living in Egypt and actually used the car plates to practice them as I sat in taxis on the way to and from work.

The fact that 0 in Arabic is 5... and 7 in Arabic is 6... was the biggest problem for me.

And then there is that odd fact that we use the original Arabic numerals, whereas in Arabic, they use the Indian numerals.

Is it safe to assume that Johnslat has not quite grasped the concept of "Irony". Does he have the same form of Asperger's as Sheldon Cooper ? (My hero)

I had not really meant that I should have been a diplomat. The role of Lord High Executioner would be more my cup of tea.

It's easy to confuse numbers 7 and 8 but I remember it but 7 looking like the letter V and seven has a V in it.
