Dear Gamajorba,
We get it. Your experience in Saudi was negative. Not everyone will have that, Please drop it already.

The difference is that nomad soul talks only about her personal experiences and admits that the experiences of others can be very different - which is especially likely if, lacking good qualifications and/or experience, they get a position (often without doing much, if any, research) through a contractor /recruiter and/or go over on a business visa.
Then, their personal experience sometimes becomes "the truth" for every single EFL job in Saudi.
Regards,
John |

But since the next poster has already started chasing me for my point with a claim that he is in charge of standards of what is and what is not comprehensible, I will write no more.

Nonsense! I certainly don´t claim to be in charge of what is and what is not comprehensible. I just found your comment impossible to understand. Please remember that I afforded you the courtesy of reading it. |

This is a big thank you to all the crybaby trolls that leave their dwellings to destroy any opportunity of learning about a potential gig! Way to go! |

Unfortunately very little specific and relevant information gets posted on Dave's anymore. The regulars have good general info albeit outdated, but those that are currently and happily employed rarely return to this site to help out others with updated info.
So what you get are the same folks commenting the same info over and over....some are genuinely trying to be helpful while others are still bitter and use this forum to vent. |

or to educate. there are some major points or warnings that apply to all Saudi ESL jobs either because of the unethical requirements that the slave-minded Saudis all of a sudden spring up on their victims late in the hiring process, or because after a couple of months on the job, Ali Alghatani feels that you are a threat to the traditional Saudi method of free hand outs. There are many warnings that apply to all ESL jobs in Saudi Arabia that prospective applicants need to hear about. Not everybody on Dave's is an adherent to ultraliberal multiculturalism.

Or in Nutty's case to warn us that we must never trust Saracens and Moors. |

For example? I held an ESL job in KSA and left without a single complaint about my employer. My contract was honoured to the letter and my salary paid promptly every month that I was there. I realise that this isn´t always the case and that there are bad employers in the Kingdom but let´s not generalise. |

Dear sheikh,
Useless advice, I'm afraid. Mr. Nut is the five-star general of generalizations.

Dear john
Mr Nut has been promoted to the grade of six-star general of generalisations of all Armies of generalisations.
Warm Regards,

Dearest Yahya & scot (I refuse to address 007 in a civil manner):
We all (the elders) realize (or should) that as regressive a place to work, Sowdy is (and promises to be) a much more regressive work environment than in our day.
While the Sowdy of the past required a HUGE amount of patience, realization that expectation was ill-advised, and ever-darkening humour development, it is, now, a wasteland, a refuge for the desperate and the disillusioned...such as PN.
I am so glad that I was there when one could prosper and set myself up for today.
And SO glad I left before the jade set, indelibly, in. |

Are there, then, no Franks with their wits about them left in Saudi Arabia ? Have we all left ? |

Oh, they're there all right. They just work in military programs. The pilgrims of which I speak are the ones anxious enough to take up with the likes of contractors and recruiters.
You know, the exploited lot. As they say, you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.
What's not to love? |

My observation was that those on military contracts do not often post here. They are probably worried about what their witless military superiors might think. |

As someone who left this position a while ago, just chiming to say that it's a perfectly serviceable position. Do your job; keep the cadets happy; don't cause trouble for the establishment(s) and it's a decent life as far as KSA goes. The compound is pretty nicely equipped. It's not without its issues but I thought they did more right than they did wrong.
Overall, if one goes to the kingdom for the salary, this is one of the better entry-level gigs. |
