|
|
I will probably move to Taiwan soon. I'm 40% through an online MA in Linguistics with a focus on TESOL. I understand that degrees with more than 50% online credits are not recognized by the Taiwanese government and are useless in obtaining university positions (which need a PhD anyway, so I've read). But can an online degree be useful in Taiwan in other schools, such as English language institutes or private international high schools (by "private" I mean not government run)?
I'm hoping to find a job somewhere other than Taipei.
Thanks for any information! |

To the best of my knowledge the Taiwan government does not recognize any kind of online degree. It might help you to get a job because an employer might see you as being more capable, but it won't help you in terms of visa sponsorship. Hope that helps. Good luck! |

Ah, I see. It's about qualifying for a visa. Thanks. |

Jimtheman,
That's right. Qualify, and you are in. |

I have a JD from the States, which I imagine might qualify me, but not for teaching English. |

Jim,
It's all about qualifying. And if you have a JD, I'm sure you will qualify.
Just give it a shot. |
