I'm looking for a teaching placement somewhere (open to lots of possibilities location-wise) with my boyfriend and would love any help/advice that anyone has for our particular situation.
Me: Certified teacher in English Language Arts with 4 years teaching experience and one year teaching ESL as a Visiting Professor in Spain, also have a M.A. in Teaching and a M.A. in English, but no TESOL or other ESL certs.
Boyfriend: BA in Business Management, no teaching experience, but long steady work history of 9 years with the same company (happens to be international if that helps, but I don't think other branches would hire out-of-country employees)
We would like to be teach somewhere where we could live together, but do not necessarily need to be in the same school or even the same field for that matter (i.e. teaching ESL at a school and at business separately is fine and actually ideal).
We are not married and though not opposed to it, don't want to be forced into it just to secure the same apartment for a teaching position. We're open to considering teaching almost anywhere.
Money IS a factor, meaning we are looking for a place that we won't have to pay to go to, nor struggle to live, and would love if we could save up a little while teaching as well.
Contract length is not a huge factor, ideally 6 months to 2 years, anywhere in there is great.
Our questions:
1) Any advice for destinations (world-wide) to target?
2) Recruiting agencies that might be helpful with helping us out?
3) Your own experiences as a couple trying to get placed together, stories, ideas, suggestions, etc..?
4) Should we get TEFL certs, one or both of us or anything else?
So far the only advice I've heard has been for Korea, and that is that if we get married, they'll put us in the same apartment, otherwise we're screwed, or maybe go to Ulsan because they're more flexible. Can anyone give me a ray of hope, or nicely tell me it's not happening? [/i] |

Not Europe.
Actually the '...won't have to pay to go to...' clause limits your choices considerably. |
