|
|
I'm considering getting a MA in Tesol down the road. Prices for higher education credentials are quite a bit cheaper than back home in the west. My main concern is having the degree recognized back home. Has anyone earned a degree from this university or other programs located in other Asian countries?
I'm aware there are 3rd party companies that evaluate the credits/degrees obtained from non-English speaking countries. I also realize the program should incorporate a balance of theory and practical experience into the curriculum. I guess ultimately I'm just looking for confirmation from others who have traveled this same path for their education. I look forward to hearing others input on this matter. I've posted the link for your viewing.

Certainly not a new topic. You might take a look at the following:

Hi NS and NS,
Non Sequitur:
I see the costs for Chinese Universities is quite affordable, probably similar to other Asian country university fees. Something to keep in mind when deciding which location to attend.
Nomad Soul:
The sites you provided were pretty informative. It seems this is a controversial debate whether non-English unis being equivalent to English country unis. I don't think it's a matter of quality, but more of the accreditation.
After browsing the Payap University website in depth, I discovered as of 2012, Payap Uni is going to be recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education and students can get financial aid to attend the said location.
This is a relief, but I still question whether future employers will question the validity of the course, even if I show that the US gov't has approved the uni.

More thoughts on it by all is appreciated.

As much as you question it, that's something no one can predict---whether potential US/UK/Canadian/Aussie employers will be biased against a degree from an non-Anglophone country. (Frankly, there are employers in the US who, for various reasons, don't think much about degrees from the University of Phoenix.) Anyway, in the long run, you either will have no issues when competing for jobs, or will discover your money really wasn't well spent. |

Unlikely, but maybe they have some kind of alumni association you could get in touch with? At the very least you could ask the administration if they could put you in touch with some recent graduates to get some insight. Would be interested to hear the response if you go this route. |

you can't necessarily go by "government approval" in this case. the
university of phoenix is approved for veterans benefit payments!
(UofP do indeed offer TEFL/TESOL!.............guaranteed acceptance
if you can draw sparky the turtle on the back of this matchbook!) |

I think the need to have international cred is understood by the Asian Us including Dalian Medical. They state that their medical degree is accepted by WHO and you have to have a related qual plus a professorial recommendation from home to be accepted.
I've only ever seen Indian foreign students from the Medical U in Dalian but there must be others.
The medical degree tuition is entirely in English, but would be pricey compared to other disciplines. |
