717 people were killed in another stampede at the same site where they have had repeated stampedes in the past. Maybe it's time for the Saudis to admit that they need to forego that little activity.

Nice to see that Africans get the blame, rather than poor organization by the Saudis.

I'm sure more details will come out as time goes on.

When I was in Saudi Arabia, I had the privilege to try the Labor Bureau there. You get up in the morning (5:00), take a (for most people) long taxi trip and then wait for hours. When they open the doors there is usually somewhat of a stampede (seriously) due to idiots (who they are I will keep to myself) who feel entitled to come later than everyone else and make it in anyway. They only take 30 applicants per day, and there is hundreds who show up at the Bureau everyday. When they opened up I was caught in a stampede of people trying to get through a small opening in a gate. I was caught in the gate and being heavily pushed, I was able to finally eject myself from the gate. Lots of Luck.

Voyager
Your problem hardly counts as major when we compare it to the death of 700+

What: throwing a bunch of small rocks at a bigger rock? Why, abandoning such an intelligent, sensible, and productive activity would be totally nonsensical! Laughing

In which case all religions should be abandoned and their rituals made obsolete. Now that is intelligent!

My main target would be the worshippers of Kardashian.

Used to be the Spice Girls before reality TV came along. Not sure which was worse.

Fortunately we have entered a golden age of TV, thanks to its beginnings with The Sopranos in 1999-2007. Currently there are 400+ scripted shows on US TV, many from quality networks like Netflix and HBO. That compares to 200 or less at the unfortunate zenith of reality shows.

Kardashian has a huge, er, presence, if you know what I mean, but other than that, she's a blight on the landscape.

Yesterday in the Guardian I read that if one abandons all religions and its rituals human beings would have nothing to cling to and so would have a great void. I wonder?

Well, having abandoned all religions and rituals (expect for maybe personal ones) myself, I'd say the great void is pretty darn good.

Drop in and see for yourself. Very Happy

Regards,
John
