I'm currently applying for a Raytheon job in Jeddah/Taif. Has anyone heard anything about this company? I know it involves teaching the Saudi Air Force and living a compound life, but not sure how that is. This would my trip into the Middle East, so not even green yet.

Try a search. I think some info has appeared about Raytheon in these threads somewhere.

I was there for a couple of years, a long time ago. It was a terrible job. In fact, our job was to eat s&%$. And with only one month annual vacation.

There has been much discussion about this place over the years. In addition to doing a search on Raytheon, do a search on SALTS. That was the subcontractor that ran the program for a few years. Just about anything that is said about the job in the SALTS posts will be true of the Raytheon posts. In general the students are HORRIBLE, the curriculum is HORRIBLE, the management is INCOMPETENT and the salary is FABULOUS. If you apply, expect to be treated rudely.

I interviewed with the HR at Raytheon before I left Saudi Arabia. He told me he would have me back in the Kingdom in two months. That was nine months ago.

I once posted an excerpt from a travel memoir I wrote, about a series of classroom incidents at Raytheon-Jeddah in which certain students kept bragging how they chased little "fat boys" down the corniche for afternoon delights and carnal thrills. I never claimed I thought they were serious, but it was bizarre to even think those stories up and tell them to me in class. One of the most notorious apologists (a female) for the Kingdom of Humanity on these boards accused me of being a liar and making it all up. Guess what--I didn't. Anyone who taught at Raytheon will find it all credible and unsurprising. But, of course, what do I know? I couldn't possibly know as much about teaching Air Defense lads as some western woman in an abaya.

I interviewed with them in Boston. They seemed desperately keen to hire me at the time. After visiting a former colleague on their compound some years later...I understood why.
Crummy living conditions, worthless administration, students-according to my friend-worse than the Royal Saudi Navy cadets (although, I am still not convinced this is humanly possible), and finally...only 3 weeks leave a year plus Eid holidays.
I'd give it a miss.

To be fair, the housing on the compound was more than reasonable. That was the only good thing about the job.

I believe your account of the actions of the boys. I was shown a video on a cell phone of two of them together - and showing their faces and everything else that they were doing!
And that was in Tabuk, Khamis, Jeddah and Doha! It seems that boys are much more popular that anything else everywhere in the region................
