Me wonders how the heck backpackers define "a good city in China"?

Aren't "backpackers" supposed to be spared the taunts on the newbie forum? I believe that's why it was created.

Roger's taunts are not limited to backpackers or newbies.

It seems he fancies himself as a moderator of some sort.

So, if you have "too many questions", your questions are "too obvious" or perhaps you have "never travelled on your own" then you are a potential victim.

But you're all missing the point! There's a 'search' feature that can bring up information about specific cities. If anyone cares to peruse the forums, one can see various opinions on different cities, climates, working conditions, living conditions, etc.
You criticize Roger for his responses. WHERE'S YOUR INPUT REGARDING THE ORIGINAL OP?

Denise: It is, a mon avis, a legitimate beef when "Newbies" expect to be served up a city, a school name, a salary expectation, a sample contract, etc. without themselves making the effort to research the existing forums, then ask specific questions to those who may be best suited to making a qualified answer.
I querried whether the OP was French because of the post subject referred to Chine.

Where's Ludwig when you need him?

I didn't mean to taunt, but well, that's what it looked like!
Still, newcomers can be expected to frame their questions a little more intelligently, can't they?

Yes, I criticized Roger for his response.
I didn't realize I needed your permission nor did I know I had to follow your rules.
I suggest you start your own website if you have such ambitions.

As for the OP if I thought I could help, I would have.
Wait a minute.
I think criticizing Roger just might have helped, at least the poster realizes we are not all cut from the same cloth. (at least most of us)

Wowzers: So you have admitted to everyone that you bring nothing of value to these forums? Good for you!
At least the OP realizes that we are not all ignorant, vapid, prattling fools that would criticize someone who has contributed in excess of 3500 posts in an attempt to help others.

I asked a question, Roger made a statement. You contributed nothing.

I am with Roger and Sinobear on this one (notice the China/e hands sticking together!) --

Asking for a recommendation on a "good" city to teach in China is kind of silly. Does the OP realize that China is a huge country, only slightly smaller than the US?

What is a "good" city to the OP? A big one? A smaller one? (Understand that these are uniquely defined here!) Is it one with culture? With lots of jobs? How about weather - wise? We just can't be expected to telepathically know what the OP is looking for.

You should think about what your idea of a good city is, first, then do a bit of research, and see how many cities here seem to fit that ideal. Then you can go from there and ask us about specific places.

Sinobear,
I admitted no such thing, in fact, quite the opposite.

If the rest of Roger's 3500 posts are anything like what I have seen then I fail to see how he has helped anyone.
His posts (that I have read) have been mostly misleading, whiney and abrasive.
If this is your idea of a model poster then you're welcome to continue defending him.
It's entirely possible we will meet again.

There are a lot of good places to work.

1. What kind of accomodations do you want?
2. Do you like hot, cold weather?
3. How big of a city are you interested in living?
4. How small of a city do you want to live in?
5. Are you interested in specific areas?
6. How old are you and have you travelled outside of the US?
7. Can you handle a different culture?
8. Do you have to be around English speaking people?
9. What is your degree?
10. Do you want to teach children, elementary or high school students, university, adults or at a company?
11. How much research have you done about the country?
12. Do you know any Chinese people?
13. Have you posted a resume on any of the ESL websites?
14. Do you know anyone that has been an ESL teacher?
15. How long do you plan on staying in China?
16. Do you have a passport and live close to a city where they issue visas?
17. Would you live in a small community and commute to a large city?

These are a few things to think about. I lived and worked in Korea for 11 months. I lived and worked in China for 14 months. I married a Chinese woman. I lived in a big city and a small city. Depending on the kind of activities you want will determine where you might be interested. There is a lot of information on the web, cities, schools, employment agencies and etc.

Good luck

OK, bub. I'm stepping in now.

Roger has given a great deal of advice on these forums. Much of it (not all, but much) has been helpful for many people, myself included.

Roger contributes. This is a good thing. The more information we have on these forums, the better off we all are. If you don't like what he says, good for you. You don't have to be nasty about it.

What you are doing is calling Roger whiney, which is quite funny because you are whining yourself about him being whiney!

You called him abrasive, although yet again you should turn to the mirror and have a little gander to see the true definition of the word "abrasive".

As for being misleading....you are the one leading the misleading brigade, not Roger.

Sorry but accomodation is uncountable, surely? You remind me of Bush and his technologies.

TO THE OP ( this is no hijack obear) check this out, I made a list ( purely subjective) of good and bad cities:
