Just wondering if places sometimes consider applicants w/o CELTA or TEFL certs, but have Masters.... I have seen a few job postings that ask for certs or Masters.
Thanks |

If the MA is in a related field, then ideally a school should value it more than a CELTA or other month-long certificate.
Yes, some schools do ask for MAs and not for certificates. My current school is an example.

To teach English in the US, Canada, or at many university-level schools abroad, an MA in a related field is usually required. Most such schools won't even look at a TEFL certificate. |

Thanks. I have a MA in English/Linguistics and am looking to teach overseas. Hopefully that will be good enough. |

If it's not good enough, then I would question as to why. The only barrier might be experience. |

Any employer who prefers CELTA or any month long cert over an M.A. (Even in basket weaving) must have sh*t for brains. But of course, this is very prevelent in the wonderful world of TEFL. |
