Does anyone know what the rental laws are in Tokyo. If you become behind on your rent will you be evicated?

In theory, you can'T be evicted overnight. The owner needs to go thru a process with the courts to have you evicted This could take anywhere up to 6 months. I suggest you just right a letter to them, outlining when you plan to pay etc. They will probably be fine as it easier than hassling with evicting you.
