Hey y'all. Another poll on dating in Japan from me and my wife. (Note: I'm American, she's Japanese.) My wife thinks most Japanese girls who date foreign guys are ugly, and the remaining few are just plain. I have a slightly more positive opinion, but I have to admit that the girls foreign guys date here are often below the national average.

So what's the deal? Cast your vote and give us your take on it!

BTW this phenomena is not limited to Japan, same thing happens in Thailand

I vote E as well. And also add that the simply don't know any better, or it's the only girl who speaks English well. I know guys who have literally dated the first girl they met off the plane (because she was the one sent to pick them up because she was eigo jouzu). Foriegn guys come here not understanding the dating scene and finesse their way into dating the more shy inaccesable girls, so of course get nabbed by aggressive getting on in years women. Sure there are exceptions, but you'll also notice most white guys in Japan date women older than they are. Not a coincidence. Those are the ones that are left over.

my wife is older than me and is divorced.
Obviously she didn`t want to marry a Japanese man again, and she wanted someone who would help with the housework.

Foreign guys marry women older and younger than they are.

I wouldn`t want to be married to someone who I couldn`t talk to.
My wife is bilingual.
I know a guy who has a wife that does not speak English not well, and he speaks Japanese not well either, and they barely communicate.
But, to each his own.

I'm not voting on this poll because I don't agree with the question. My girlfriend looks great and I've seen a lot of other cute girls with foreign guys. Then again I'm pretty anti-social and I don't hang out with many foreign guys so I can't back up what I'm saying.

I really think you need to do a new poll with more choices. Basically, I think foreign men will generally marry someone not always based on their age, but also how well the couple gets along and do they share some values. granted、there sare trophy wives in the US, but by and far most people know who they are marrying (in other words, it's not arranged, still 1 in 5 in Japan).

As to the appearanceof the women, of course there are different standards for Japanese and Westerners, and different men and women. One of the other forums I post on sometimes, the guys there are into sticks, bascially slim Japanese women. But I always ask, uh shouldn't there be some bumps on the chest on that model Laughing

I agree with Hoser. Nearly every foreigner that I know who is married to a Japanese woman has a lovely wife. Poor survey, as usual.
