Thailand meets four of your seven criteria . . .
And vice can be a HUGE expense. Don't underestimate it.
Pirvates, in particular - can be costly . . . |

I always think of Canada, America, and England as places where locals teach ESL. I'm a hardcore TEFLer and I want something more exotic.
Thailand sounds nice. |

Italy meets most of your criteria:
Tick
Tick
Quote: |
- High setup costs |
As high as you want! (See cost of living.)
Well, you don't have to do privates if you really want the challenge of living on your crappy salary.
Quote: |
- High cost of living |
Salary: between 800 and 1,200 euros a month. Rent: about 50% of your salary. Unless you want to share a flat with a bunch of strangers/nutters half your age.

- Crappy school that I'll leave after three months |
Plenty to choose from.
Tick. And the added bonuses of all-pervasive corruption and organised crime.
For some reason, I love it here. |

Some day, when I've got my 10 houses in China making me a nice regular monthly income, I'd love to teach in Italy just for the fun of it. Wouldn't want to be in my current situation (with chinese wife and baby) just on the salary there though (relative to the Cost of Living). |

I do believe Buenos Aires might just be the place for you:
- Low salary
No one earns a salary in BA, you work for 429 different schools and are extremely lucky to come out with more than us$500 a month.
- No airfare
Airfare to Argentina, paid by an Argentine school?
- High setup costs
If you don't have a local guarantor you'll have to pay 2 years rent up front or you'll have to pay tourist rates for renting a flat/cupboard.
- No pirvates
Well, you can get pirvate classes but, being latinos, they never turn up.
- High cost of living
Earning us$500/month might put you in the top 15% of the country but it doesn't mean you'll have any money left over at the end of the month. In fact, you'll almost certainly have spent most of the money it took 2 years to save in japan/korea/the middle east/other telf hell and you'll have to ask your parents to buy your ticket home.
- Crappy school that I'll leave after three months
3 months at the very most.
- Vice
Argentine prossies are tasty (except the ones with willies who hang around in the woods, with wood) and you can also get a couple of paraguayan lesbians for us$10/hour. Apparently.

I can second ilaria, and I'm right at the other end of Italy! Best you only come here if you have other funds, and they'll soon disappear as well.
As for the vice... if you are female plenty of creepy guys around who are extremely optimistic. Think I'd take the Paraguayan lesbians any day. |

How about a nice beach resort in Mexico? Cancun? Puerto Vallarta? Cabo San Lucas?
Salary probably less than 500 US a month.
No Airfare
Costs run up by the fact lots of rich foreigners own villas there, appartments come completely empty so you have to buy everything, and your Visa will cost you about US 200.
Privates are technically illegal, and anyways students flake out after two weeks.
Cost of living high for same reason as set up costs high-US retirees who think two dollars is cheap for a beer.
Plenty of crappy schools
Any and all vices available, if you are serious about the debt, choose an imported vice to get the least for your money.
ENJOY! |

Your request is more difficult than it seems.
We certainly have crap salaries in Ecuador, but if you're interested in SERIOUS debt load, it's hard to accumulate much- cost of is a bit too low.
Your best bet would be to come here not speaking the language, pay tourist rates for everything, and insist on accomodation above the local standard. (A US-style apartment here could cost as much as $600-$1000 per month; My (locally appropriate) apartment costs $170.)
It's not easy to lose your shirt in Ecuador, but if you work hard at it, I suppose it's possible.
Of course, in my personal experience, if you want to get into serious, dangerous debt, there's no place like home. (My "home," at least, which is the good old U S of A!)
All the best,
Justin |

Justin is right there. When I worked in London after graduating, I did not live an extravagant life, and my debt never seemed to go down. I came to China, on a low, Chinese salary, living well, eating out often, etc, and have saved a lot of money.
The west is the place to go to get into debt... |
