Johnslat and Scot47/Angus aside, both of whom are clearly in the twighlight of their tefl years,it would be interesting to know who's been around the efl block on this forum. Some of the posters are so full of ideals that I doubt they've ever spent more than a year abroad...if that.I've got 10 years in numerous places and have taught just about everything from yl beginner to the english of army ordinance.....how about the rest of you?Just interested that's all............ |

Dear biffinbridge,
Twilight years, hell - it's High Noon for me, pardner ( and SMILE when you say that, stranger ). OK - I suppose my wandering days MAY be over, but one never knows what's down the road. Though I'll admit I love it back here in Santa Fe, I still can feel the lure of far away places with strange sounding names. ( like, say, Walla Walla, WA ). After a year or so here I just might find a geezer-friendly locale, pack my bags and hit the road again. Even if I don't, I'll almost surely be in teaching till I drop, just because I enjoy it so much ( it sure ain't for the money ). Oh - and although I'm an old-timer, I've still got plenty of ideals left. Anybody who wants to try and take them away will have to pry them from my cold, dead hands ( apologies to the NRA ).
Regards,
John |

johnslat: excuse my ignorance. What's NRA?
Also I think living and working in Gulf probably ages you. You are actually only 21 |

Two years in the Czech Republic
One year part-time in the US
One summer (OK, one month...) in China (but hey, it was only a one-month course)
Four months now in Japan
May not sound like much by comparison, but hey, I'm still young.

Addendum:
It's great to see who's been where, and I was thinking about starting a similar thread asking the same question, but I had misgivings. Seems like the info could easily be used for evil (in my opinion) purposes, e.g. newbie-bashing.
"WHAT?!?!? You mean you've only spent a year 'abroad'? BAH!"
I hope that doesn't happen. Especially since many of those who have spent less time "abroad" than others are likely younger than others, also. In order for me to have 10 years of EFL experience, I'd have to have packed up straight out of high school.
And another thought: longer does not necessarily mean better. (minds out of the gutters, please! )

17 years in the UK State (mis)Education system
13 years in Europe - East and West.
The Iron Curtain is down, the EU is getting bigger, the kids are all grown, it's time to head East again, back to the insanity that I love. |
