another EF gripe, whats new?! Crying or Very sad
this mob are totally dishonest. have three schools in parts of jakarta that would bore you and depress you like you wouldnt believe. have been known to fire people without reason to avoid reimbursing airfares or fulfill contracts. always use falling student numbers as an excuse. watch out for a guy named dave and a woman named jeane. these people are total snakes.

I am the artist referred to as snake by Maggie here, no doubt another disgruntled ex-employee sacked for either incompetence or misconduct. Which one was it, Maggie?

Seeing as I now no longer work at EF West Jakarta, and havent done so for some time, you must have been harboring your grudge for quite a while. If so, why let the world know about it now?

I guess youve probably been too busy looking for a job these past few months since your dismissal to write about your gripe?

Looking at your scribble above, a couple of points you might like to clarify, Mags.

Firstly, what exactly do you find especially depressing about Kebon Jeruk, Meruya or Karawaci? They are average run of the mill places. They are, in short, Jakarta, Indonesia. If you dont like it here.etc, etc.

Secondly, dishonest? Moi? Examples please, and dont give me the tosh about have been known to fire people without reason to avoid reimbursing airfares or fulfill contracts, unless of course you want to give specific examples? As stated above, I only ever fired incompetents or planks.

Identify yourself and Ill be able to remember which label applies to you.

Get real - s/he could have got another EF job within hours, not months.

Oh dear, Confused (big sigh) I wasnt being literal. I was being sardonic. I was using sarcasm in questioning why Mags had taken so long in voicing her gripe.

Ok guglebum? Got it now? Please let me know if its still going over your head.

does anyone else out there think that this " magpie" and " papillon" are the same posters?....heres why i feel this way....

1.) papillon has suddenly disappeared( he may just be on vacation, and i do miss you paps), and magpie arrives.
2.) magpie appears to be griping about something that suposedly occured months ago at ef ( according to mr. nesbit) and papillon is still griping about things that supposedly happened to him YEARS ago at another ef.
3.) magpie refers to this ef( 3 branches, sorry) as a " mob", this is the same term papillon has used to refer to other ef's( i think...i'll have to double check that one now that i think about it).

i'm not saying that they are the same person and i don't really care if they aren't, but Dave Nesbit, you can send me a pm and i'll let in on who it most likely is.

....oooops, almost forgot.
4.) magpie stupidly calls people out by name and basically slanders them without giving any REAL examples as to why he has chosen to do this (calling dave a snake), and papillon did this on a seemingly daily basis.

if this is paps, then i have to say that i missed you. if it isn't, then its nice to hear from you and i look forward to see how you back up your comments. however, if it really is paps, then you won't.

Hey, I take things as I find them.

I found EF Kebun Jeruk to be a fair place to work for a few years ago. I have a few gripes about the EF system, but when you consider some of the teachers who roll up, the bosses have their share of gripes too. The only persons I saw fired in two years was a chronic alcholic, who collapsed in the classrooom three times before he was moved on, and a certain DoS who liked to peek into windows.

The management were a lot more caring and considerate than some EF directors I've known.

Sure, they could have paid a bit more attention to the needs of teachers and housing, but they in turn only rented the houses - not owned them.

It was a good stepping stone to other schools, and that's not to be taken as a derogatory comment.

interesting......a certain DOS who likes to peek in windows.
is that certain dos the one who has posted on this site?

and dave thanks for the imput.......pity your version isn't accurate.
i must say you seem to think you are an authority on competence.
how do you rate your competence as a dos then....no doubt better
than your peers do.

i'm glad that someone (guruengerish) took the time to post a constructive comment/ opinion. now, all i am waiting for is magpie to back up his comments/ slander. i would also like to know why it took him/ her ( sorry, i thought you were paps) sooo long to post this " warning" that they thought was so necessary......i'd really like to hear some details about the "snake"-like activities you encountered.

Maggie, I know who you are and why you were sacked. Your inability to put capital letters into sentences was one of the reasons! Would you like me to post my full evaluation of the observation I did on one of your classes so all can see?

As Beefy has pointed out, you are yet to enlighten the board with anything whatsoever to back up your original bout of squealing. Cant back your stuff up, eh?

As for my being an authority on competence, well I sorted the wheat from the chaff in your case, didnt I?

Have no fears. The DoS concerned departed Indonesia many moons ago. I doubt that he ever read, let alone wrote to these pages.

The school appointed him and others during a critical shortage of teachers, when a few voted with their feet and salaries were falling way behind costs.

Off topic a bit: Coming to Indonesia can be a shock. I don't think it matters too much which school you're with; for a westerner to leave a cosy, hygienic and almost sterile environment, and lands in Jakarta, it's quite a shock to the system, specially the immune system!

As my German-trained GP told me, 'you'll build up a resistance in a few years'. He was right, and I wasn't off sick once in my final two years. It was just the first three that were somewhat 'interesting'.

It was all a great experience, and I wouldn't have missed it for quids. For those of you still in Indonesia, hang in there. I'd love to be back! What a pity that Kantor Immigrasi has decided that we're all past it after age 55. Sad

I worked at EF west Jakarta for about two and a half years on a one-year contract, and as they're looking for teachers again, I have sent them a message feeling them out.
I had no problems with them. The owners treated me well. The only possible complaint I had was their choice of DoSes. I knew the DoS "who liked to peek through windows." He was at Meruya. And the guy who got the job in KBJ when there was a vacancy was a dodgy choice - TOO young, very inexperienced, and wanted the job specifically BECAUSE he didn't like teaching (???). There was one guy, Jeff something or other, who was pretty chill.
Anyway, I always got paid on time, had plenty of opportunity for overtime (but I don't think I had to do it - I don't remember, because I LIKE making extra money doing easy stuff like teaching English), and the owners would regularly take the teachers on excursions, like a couple of times to the Thousand Islands. I liked working there, and MIGHT just do it again. My guess is that Magpie simply didn't hold up his or her end. We had a lot of that in my day as well. Jakarta gets even dodgier teachers than China does, for some reason.
(So does Vietnam. Maybe it's the tropical climate?)

The matter of experience for the replacement DoS at EF West JKT was never an issue.

He played golf with the boss, and that was sufficient. Smile
