I was just wondering what all of you thought about the customer service in Mexico. This could include markets, shopping centres or restaurants.

i have found that the attention in Guadalajara is quite good. You do get the occational bad service, but overall not too bad.

oh...speaking of which. Stay away from The Mundo Cafe on Chapultepec. You will become a skeleton before anyone pays you any attention.

So...please include stories if you like. It will make for a good read i think.

I think it depends a lot on the industry or the individual business. Overall, I find restaurant service to be excellent, with exceptions here and there.

I once thought of Telmex as being a customer service nightmare, but I've had good experiences with them lately.

Luz y Fuerza (CFE in most other places) is a ridiculous joke. The customer serves Luz y Fuerza, not the other way round.

Local airlines have been great...a bit better than foreign lines I've been on.

Pllumbers, electricians, and handymen I've contracted have all been very good.

Cablevision call centre has the worst customer service of anywhere I've ever experienced.

I hate them. Twisted Evil

I've found that local small businesses and restaurants in my neighborhood always treat me very well.

In restaurants and anything slightly touristy service is usually pretty good (speaking for SLP)... anywhere else you'll find the majority of staff undertrained/don't know how to do their job/can't be bothered.

My solution for the merchant who tries to charge me more because I' m a Gringo or the waitress who twists her face and says "eeeeeeeeeh?" when I slightly mispronounce "Mirinda" is to never go there again - no hay problema.

That's awful! I hope you got something for your back somewhere else closeby. The TV in the workplace here is one of life's little mysteries. We even see small TV's in outside stands along the streets in the downtown, and in the central market, and in fact have to be careful not to trip over extension cords!

I remember the first time I had to buy a bunch of stuff in a small town hardware shop. I didn't have all the names right, and the one I went to helped me out so much and didn't seem at all peturbed that a woman was buying a weird selection of tools and plumbing supplies.

*Love* hardware shops that aren't macho. Wink

HSBC bank has the worst customer service in my experience.

IXE Bank seems to be better.

Just 2 of my recent experiences-

GOOD ...at 8pm I ventured out to see if the neighbourhood hardware store was open, armed with the word 'desatascador' written on a piece of paper. I didn't have the word quite right, but my actions (of plunging) and "por la bano" produced a big smile from the clerk who then produced exactly what I was looking for. I'll return whenever I need anything a hardware store might sell.

Reminds me of the time I needed a stereo mini jack cable with both ends male. I created howls of laughter when I asked for "un cable con dos colas masculinas" but they gave me what I needed.

I've been treated pretty well by Santander Serfin, just one glitch when I went to open an account, and it was quickly rectified. They have chairs for your sitting down comfort while you're waiting in line to see a teller, a nice touch, I think.

Absolutely, 2 strong shots of tequilla at my house, fixed the toilet with the new plunger and was in bed by 9:30 pm. Very Happy

Tequila is a great cure for the most awful pains! Once the kitchen boiler exploded in my face and burnt off a part of an eyebrow - the pain was so fierce I couldn't sleep. One shot of tequila, the pain was gone, and I went to sleep like a baby.
