I am in DF and need to send a money order to the vital statistics office in Texas for some paperwork. They tell me it doesn't need to be from anywhere in particular as long as it is in USD.
However, I have been to several banks and none of them seem to understand what it is I need, exactly. My translator doesn't know what a money order is(they said they thought money orders were no longer in use) so I think something may be getting lost in the translation.
Does anyone here know where I can get one? TIA

Money orders, or giros postales, are still used as far as I know. I was told you would have to go to the post office to request a money order.

Sorry! I've been a bit busy.
When we went to the post office the clerk acted like we were insane for thinking they would do that. I ended up mailing stuff to my sister to do things from the US for me.
Sucks.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's possible to find a MO in any other currency than pesos here.

Here are some other possibilites for money orders in Mexico:

Telecomm Telegrafos appears that they might have international money orders:

Also, there are some banks which issue international cashier's checks in US dollars, HSBC being one of them.

I have tried sending money to the US in general to be a very difficult task. I have tried the bank where there is a Western Union and nobody seems to know how to SEND money to the US. Each time I go, they give me a different answer and a different time to return, as the person who does this is never there!

I tried to find MO as well, to no avail. Thanks for the additional info on this!

I have sent both to and from Mexico using an online company called Xoom, with no problems in either direction.
