I guess there are a few summer jobs available. I am off for 2 months soon. Are they OK or not worth it?

This is like asking, "Teaching in China, is it worth it?"

There are a plethura of summer jobs. A few are great, some are good, some are ok, and many suck. I would say there are more bad jobs run by greedy, moneygrubbing *%&^'s than good ones, for sure.

The upside is that if you find a good summer job you can experience a different part of China and make some nice coin while doing it. The downside is you could get used and abused.

So, if you're thinking about summer jobs, fine tune your BS detector and avoid anything that seems in the least bit sketchy or questionable. The good thing is if you are already a teacher in China, the summer job probably isn't sponsoring your visa/work permit and you can walk away at any time that they don't live up to the terms they promised you. NEVER give up your passport to the director of a summer job!

'Avoid exfoliation before doing a summer gig. The kiddies like to pull on your hairs for hours.

When someone relatively new at teaching abroad gets tricked or lured into a situation that is unfair or illegal, do you blame the person who cheated or the person who got cheated?

I would never say that newbies to China deserve to get cheated just because they are inexperienced about some of the issues nor I would never encourage nor support someone to cheat another.

And any experienced teacher who actively spends his or her time insulting others and saying that newbie teachers deserve to be cheated has some serious ethical issues, IMHO.

I did a 5 wk summer gig a few years ago. Best 5 weeks I have had in China.
There was no signed contract. The small language school was really out in the country - and they didn't have the legal right to hire foreigners.
The town was smallish by Chinese standards about 300,000 people.
I was the only laowai for miles and was certainly stared at in a way I hadn't been in the main centre I lived in normally.
My regular employer knew (I think) that I was employed over summer and were totally uninterested.
I was well paid and the hospitality was embarrassingly lavish.
It's 7 years since that first summer job and I still receive emails from the children I taught. Of course they're in high school now.
My advice is go for a school who really value you - ie they've arranged their summer courses around you being there.

the problem with most summer schools is the organizer
does not know how many students they're going to get into you're already into your second or third day of classes.

AVOID IS THE BEST OPTION
