I'm taking my CELTA course in Istanbul this month and there are several Iranians in my class. They say that there are hardly any NETs there and they are some of the sweetest people that I've ever met. I've half a mind to go teach alongside of them. |

The problem is getting jobs there with a legal work visa. I have friends who have traveled around Iran and ran into a few teachers who picked up a short term job in some of the larger cities, but none of them were making a living. I don't see Iran re-opening for TEFLers until there has been a significant change in the system there.
Shame...

When I was in Iran on holiday, I met a French guy who was teaching French in Yazd. Although he had no shortage of students, he told me he'd very likely have to leave Iran soon, simply because his would-be employer were finding it extremely difficult to complete the neccessary paperwork to allow him to get legal residence in Iran.
This was in 2005, and I'd imagine that if anything, the situation has got worse since then. Iran is indeed a fascinating country with wonderful people, but now and for the foreseeable future, it is unlikely to be a viable destination for language teachers. |

I was invited to do some IELTS testing there but could not get a visa. My fellow-Scot George Galloway seems to have no problems in getting into the Islamic Republic but there you are. Life is unjust. |

To Scot47 --
Just love your 'location'. It's taken me 10 minutes to stop laughing. Thanks for the chuckle! |

Ahh, but Harold Camping has rescheduled it for October 21, 2011, so you may have less time that you thought. |

Your disillusionment just confirms what happens when you're out in the Saudi sun for too long! |

Nor a vacation destination, thanks to my US passport. Damn! Now I'll just have to settle for...Tahiti...Paris...San Francisco...Florence...Positano...Austria...or some miserable place like that. Ah, Tehran,*sigh* |

Well Bader... old friend... to be honest, I'd much rather visit Iran than any of the places you list. But, I didn't want to have to deal with the Iran visa system for Americans. I regret very much that I wasn't able to visit there as everyone that I know who went absolutely loved it.

I'm sure it's pleasant, and I've know Iranians since I was 10 years old who told me it was essentially the best place in the world. But...you wouldn't like to visit any of those places I listed?? There's something for everyone there! And I love them all--variety being the spice, and all that...well, I could strike Paris off the list.
OK--closer reading reveals that you didn't say you wouldn't like to visit an of those other places, only that Tehran would be preferable. I remain, however, about the quality of locations, yours skeptically, BBBB |

Latest news is that Tehran traffic cops can now cite (arrest?) you for un-Islamic dress as well as traffic violations. VS--what on earth is the attraction of an Iranian vacation compared to Tahiti or any of the others you poo-pooed? My gosh. |
