|
|
I signed up for a teacher recruiting agency called "Gold Star TEFL Recruitment." There are two schools they referred me to that I'm debating over right now. I don't know which should I teach for. I'm thinking of DD Dragon school. The person who interviewed me seemed extremely outgoing and I had really good interview with him. My interview with Shane English School is coming up but according to some ESL teacher boards on the web, they're terrible to work for. Does anybody here have any experience with them or DD Dragon school? |

Do a search for DD Dragon on this site. I've written plenty about it to give you an idea of what to expect.
Don't use a recruiter for DD Dragon or Shane or any other bigger name companies that you can contact directly. |

Thanks for your response. I did a search for DD Dragon school but there were pages and pages of results. Is there a specific title that I should look for? Thanks. I'm pretty green when I comes to looking for jobs in the ESL field in other countries, that's why I decided to choose a recruiting agency to help me out. Why is it bad to use an agency to apply for a big school? Do they tend to not care and sell you off for the commission?
Best,
Dave. |

I just accepted a position with Shane in a small city near Shanghai. Next week I'll go for training in Shanghai.
I read all the posts (for years back) here on Dave's and searched elsewhere (found a couple of personal blogs) but couldn't find much substance to the rants. In fact, a Shanghai DoS who came to the defence of their Beijing school received more support for what he stated than the OP. I'll give you assessment within a few weeks.
It seems the more negative the post title, the less substance it actually has. That's why I've advocated the approach taken by Int'l School Review where you can find a list of schools with individual anonymous assessments rating the school on various criteria. |

Thanks and good luck! I hope it turns out well. |

Thank you. I'm amazed by the knowledge of everyone on this board. It's so helpful. When I signed up with the Gold Star agency, I think my contact details went straight to EF (English First) in the beginning. Maybe they had a partnership with them? I told my recruiter specifically that I was not interested in working for the organization and then she finally sent me some other schools. She kept insisting that EF was a great franchise to work for. It was definitely fishy. |

Re: Shane
I haven't taught many classes so far as it's a new school in a small city but Shane's coursebooks/curriculum is a vast improvement over what I'd used at Aston. There are twice as many children's course offerings including beginner levels for various ages.
The fact Shane emphasizes vocabulary/phrase drilling over the more meaningful communicative methods I've been using leaves me questioning whether it's due to their UK/Japan origin going back to 1977. |
