This is a genuine question. What is going on at Korean universities? It seems as if the pay is going down. The teaching hours up. The office hours up, and the holidays cut in half.

It also appears that overall acceptance of the need for educated & trained NS teachers has diminished.

My current university has increased my hours, (no increase in pay), halved my holidays, and has me (along with all the others living on a knife's edge about being resigned). In the new conditions I am only allowed to teach Freshmen (they are English majors), and as I am the only NS in my particluar department this means the kids get little input (comparing my class hours to their entire 4 years). The university also has a rigid 4 year rule, claiming it illegel to hire beyond. yet, they just 'forgot' the rule and hire someone into the 8th year

As I scan Daves for an alternative I see positions for freshmen English programs @ 2,000,000? I don't get it?

Does anyone? (sorry for the typos, I can't find my glasses).

I see it too. Shocked

Increased hours (up to 24.) Mandatory camps. Mandatory overtime. Less vacation. No housing. Crap pay even for masters holders.

Next they will require PhD's to teach kindie.

No, the new conditions do not apply for the Korean faculty. BTW, I have advanced degrees and have taught 'content' in my home country. I have conducted research, had it published as well as several books.

When I ried to resign the HEAD threw a fit. Since I am going home for a long over due holiday I won't be around to look for a new position. The new contract is not ready for my to sign (the admin staff has been on strike for 6 months), so when I do get back I do not know if I will still have a position!!!

autogae!!
