I'm quite pleased to report that two more states have temporarily stopped executing prisoners. I will readily admit that some people are so evil that they deserve to die to protect society, but I don't think our judicial system is currently equipped to systematically apply this penalty appropriately.

The Chinese execute an average of about 8 people a day, usually with a bullet.

(Pre-emptive strike against the holier-than-thou sorts who tend to 'people' these forums.)

Given the gravity of the punishment, "mistakes" are intolerable.

Like an ex-warden once said (while quitting in disgust): "the death penalty is a privilege of the poor in this country."

What if they instead of uspending modify the death pentalty laws so that there must be damning evidence to be sentenced to die? such as a confession, video tapes, eye witnesses? personally Im all for putitng murderers and serial killers 6 ft under.

Confessions can be coerced (the Birmingham Six), eye witnesses lie, and video tapes will never show all the circumstances surrounding a killing.

Confessions can also be like that guy who said he was a child molester from Thailand, was flown over and then they found out he was lying (I forget his name).

I agree, one innocent killed is too many to justify any number of guilty executed.

Not too mention that it is a rather strange citizen-government relationship when one has the right to kill the other. But, bottom line, humans are human . We make mistakes. And the death penalty is 'bad' for that fact.
