When I first came to Korea fresh out of uni. in the dark days of the mid 90's (dark because there were so few of us here- I didn't get to speak to a foreign guy for 6 months in Daejon/Taejon!), I actually believed the ladies. Hell, my mother always told me I was, so it had to be true! However, I quickly clued into the fact that it didn't really mean anything here. It didn't result in any lines forming at my apartment, or anything else. However, over the years I have seen quite a few guys believe it, with often hillarious results. In a similar vain, the leg touching does not mean that you are a Zeus expected to take what is perceived as being offered. I offer up for example my friend "Rob," who was so sure that he "was in there", despite my pleas for him to consider the cultrural reality of Korea. To make a long story short, he was turned down in such a harsh manner that I don't belive his *beep* descended for a month. He went through all the stages of grief; my favorite being his anger phase where he would wax philospohical his complete belief that all Korean woman were teases, etc... Does anyone have any similar stories to share? |

What leg touching are you talking about? Is this some TPR teaching methodology I'm unaware of?
The first 20 or so times I heard "so hansome" I believed it. I then went through a stretch for a couple years when I thought they were just joshing me. Nowadays, I'm back to believing them again. |

Being that only Korean men tell me this, yeah I think its bs, or maybe its a good thing if I ever want to be gay. |

Actually if anyone's going to rub or touch my legs it's going to be a (Korean, of course) man from my experience. I try to keep a safe distance away.
If a woman did it I'd probably think I was in there too, just like your friend. Did he really get a kick in the nuts? He must have done something to deserve it! |

i think that korean women and western women have different perceptions of male beauty. it seems that korean women are more interested in faces while western women are interested in male bodies. i think it is possible for a flabby man from the west with a half decent face to get called handsome by korean women. it is equally pausible i believe that any hard body man from anywhere would get called "hottie" or whatever by western women no matter what his face looks like. it's in the language as well, korean women are interested in "handsome" men while western women are interested in "hot" men. this is what it seems like to me |

Has anyone ever heard from an average-English ability Korean anything like, "You are nice-looking/good-looking/attractive"?
I thought not.
The average Korean has one word, handsome, in their speaking vocabulary to describe someone who is not ugly. |

Son, it is not about "believing" anything for me. Rather, it is about the God honest truth.
Don't player hate; appreciate! |

True 'dat, yo. It's about time I come to a place where people appreciate my good looks; where I get recognition for being "handsome" and "have(ing) a big nose"
