Well educated people are more likely to believe in UFOs and people who can speak to the dead. Being educated means you're exposed to more ideas, like not eating deep fried animals. It implies nothing beyond that. |

Contrary to researchers' expectations, a poll of 439 college students found seniors and grad students were more likely than freshmen to believe in haunted houses, psychics, telepathy, channeling and a host of other questionable ideas. |
In short, education tends to promote a sort of democratic belief system, exposing people to more ideas and the idea that we should not reject thing out of hand. |

I don't think UFOs should be on that list of implied fringe beleifs, as with the new advance of space technology and what not, and the discovery of many planets outside our solar system, the idea of other intelligences out thee visting Earth should not be so easily dismissed. |

Number of planets in the universe:
First take three of these (100 bilion pennies, where each penny represents one):
times another three of the same thing:
times a few dozen bodies around each, times 15 billion years of development.
= yes, there is life elsewhere, and deciding that here is the only viable place for it is the radical one.
Another way to show it:
That's the Sears Tower way down there in black. 89,999 more of these and we have the number of stars in the universe, so imagine that each one of these gargantuan cubes is now a single penny and put them in a stack that looks like this:
Times the number of planets around each one, times 15 billion years. |

However the thought of aliens who can get here across the distances we are talking about, and be detected by our technology seems a little far fetched...
I think it likely that there is life elsewhere. I think it orders of magnitude less likely that there is intelligent life out there, and even less likely that there is intelligent life that can cross the stars.
But as you pointed out, there are a vast number of chances for this to occur.
I think the SETI project worth pursuing, and have helped out. But I think it would be better if we could find intelligent life here as well.

and incredibly arrogant. Why would they waste all that time and effort to come see us? Please, no references to V, Star Trek, Close Encounter of the Third Kind, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or any other scifi story that 40 year-old virgins have been known to obsess about. |

Well, there are humans who travel thousands of miles in horribly uncomfortable ways just to study ant hills in the middle of a tropical forest . I am sure the ants would wonder why the hell they are doing that |

This is depressing. I'm going to have to consult my Ouija board about this. |

Well, if Ouija's not picking up, you could always look at The China Study for information about the scientific evidence in support of vegetarianism. |

There is no doubt life some place in the rest of the universe, but it is a fringe belief to claim they've some how found earth and found some way to cross light years. It's possible, but if you have the solid evidence, then provide it. |

I doubt that anyone wants to suggest that smart people aren't prone to trends and fads. |
