Why do some posts fly while others fizzle?
1. The post is correct, well-written information that needs no follow-up commentary. There's nothing more to say except "Yeah, what he said."

Warnock's Dilemma - why do some posts fizzle?

---according to Wikipedia, Warnock developed 5 possible reasons why there are no responses to a given post.

Some posts on Dave's ESL are as rusty as a Billy Goat's breakfast while other posts move faster than a chicken in Ethiopia....

please take the poll...

Are you talking about a particular post? Because it seems that this Warnock dude was saying that any one of the 5 could be a reason.

As far as I've seen, each of your options above fits one dead thread or another...

So... er... the poll is a bit pointless.

Then again, most of what goes on here at Dave's is a bit pointless... Laughing

Depends on subject matter a lot of them time. E.g. any post about Korean girls, or Costco ^^, get a lot of hits and responses. If it's boring or obscure, forget it.

I checked . . . sure enough there's a Wikipedia page about that. Bizarre.

I end up killing most of my own threads, so I guess mine just aren't interesting.

Ha, ha. 'Twould be mighty ironic if this thread too ended with a whimper, nary a vote cast on the poll, leaving one with no answers nor conclusions on the psychology of what makes such posts suck....

I've always thought that it is the first or second response that makes an OP a hit or not. If someone says something positive or witty, the thread seems to take off. Conversely, if some smart*** troll gets in first, the OP usually dies. I think it creates a bad vibe or something.

As to the poll, all of the options are true but apply to different posts, like has been mentioned.
