I was looking forward to my extra W500,000 a month for teaching MWF morning classes. It looks like I'll need to wait 2 -3 months before I see any real money due to expenses.

W260,000 - new suit
W70,000 - two new shirts
W200,000 - new top coat
W100,000 - new books

W300,000 - Computer dictionary

or

1,000,000 - new Samsung portable computer with dictionary program installed

W1,000,000 - W2,000,000 initial outlay. Every worker needs a toolbox I suppose.

How about 10,000 won for an old school dictionary...What kind of job do you have? A 260,000 suit is necessary?

What is the purpose of this post?

Do you have a question, or are we just supposed to jump up and down because you got a "company job" at a "big company"?

Rather extravagant my friend. You should have been able to get everything there for less than 200,000, if you had shopped around.
Zero sympathy! Laughing

40,000 is LOW. 1 hour? How long is your commute? You should be making atlast 50,000 AT LEAST and getting a longer block to make more money. Sounds like a crappy job.

Are you teaching Business English? If so, that is classified as English for Special Purposes or ESP and you should be charging more than 40,000 won per hour.

If they need you to be proffesional, they ought to pay for those expenses.

Give them the bills for what yuou bought and ask to be refunded, as these costs are incurred by their demands

I couldn't disagree more. They probably hired you because they want a professional, not because they want to make you a professional. Think of what you bought as an investment. There will be other jobs out there in your scope that will require professional attire as well. Submitting receipts for clothes that you are wearing and computers that you are using is the epitomy of non-professionalism.

I agree.

You should be getting no less than 50K and 2 hours per session so you'll be making at least 100K/day.

You forked out all that money for a mere 120,000원 a week. A blazer, shirt, tie, and trousers would of sufficed. However, if they stipulated that the presentation of the lessons should be conducted via software, then it is the company's responsibility to supply you with the materials of that nature, but they will not refund your purchase of a laptop.

If you're travelling over 20 mins either way, it's not that great to spend two hours of your time (one hour teaching, one hour travelling and waiting) three morns a week for 40,000...

Then again, I guess when you look at it as 500,000 a month and you wanna do something with the money and would only be laying in bed or doing nothing constructive otherwise - then it's a good thing I guess....
