With all these opinion on the Babapolooza play, it has got me thinking.

Many foreigners here do privates against their visa. They know it is illegal. If they get busted for it and deported, are they going to create a big stink? Basically, I see it this way, the law knows these sorts of things happen. Many parents and students know these illegal acts go on. So, in the laws and many others eyes, most foreigners are doing illegal things for money. You can't get away with it in at home, why do it here? It is tax evasion at the least, which Al Capone was busted for.
If you do privates, you are part of the problem. You effect foreigners reputation by continuing to do the illegal acts. So when someone does a big event where a ton of cash is exchanged, why should people think some of that money isn't going into your own pockets?
I see all these people speaking up. I wonder how many of them are tax evaders. It seems a little hypocritical to me when they say don't enforce the law, let my people go. Cops are cops. In my opinion many cops are pricks everywhere. Should the foreign population have to suffer because a few Canadians got busted with drugs? Should the Korean reputation have to suffer because of a few dirty cops or politicians?

I'm not saying that. There are even tax avoiders that are citizens like Al Capone. It is wrong in the US too.

You make an interesting point when you use Al Capone as an example, although I'm not sure if it's the point you intend to make. Would Al Capone have been busted so hard for tax evasion if he was not such a notorious gangster?

Sometimes the letter of the law is used only when the spirit is in much greater violation. Or I think as Dylan once said: "To live outside of the law you've gotta be honest."

No. I am not trying to throw any stones. Just wondering what people think.

What I think is "illegal" is in the eye of the beholder in Korea. Laws are not black and white here, like back home. Scooter guys run red lights, so do taxis, and the cops look the other way. taxes don't get paid properly by employers, everyone keeps 2 or 3 sets of books, and the rich get private teachers, bribe teachers, and do pretty much whatever they wish. So, am I gonna lose sleep over making 100,000 won for a couple hours work? heck no.
