Hi,
Can anyone tell me where Gijang is?
Apparently it's in Busan, however, I can't seem to be able to find it on any of my maps!
Thanks in advance,

Ok,
After doing a quick search on the net, I am now aware of Gijang's location (North East Busan, near Ulsan) and population size (approx 90,000) Other useless facts, such as it's famous for brown seaweed, anchovies and eel have also been established! Great!
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about living in this area though?
Thanks,

its about 30 mins drive away from haeundae, which in itself is actually on the outskirts of busan. you wont find it on a map of busan city as it is in the outskirts of busan COUNTY, not city limits.
not much there either really. kinda rural. couple of buses go into busan but its not really in busan at all. |

Several buses go from Gijang into Busan every 10-15 minutes. One to Seomyeon, One to Busan Station, one to Pusan National University (bars and food), and to otehr places. Theres' not much in Gijang for foreigners, however there is a good bit in Haeundae, which is a 30 minutes bus ride each way. Gijang does have a lot of mountains around and of course is close to the beach, but not on the beach. There are a couple of topmarts and the supermakret only version of Homeplus. And a lotteria. Thats about it. You could also try posting on the forums on pusanweb for more insights. |

if you do end up going there - seek out a restaurant named hurg si ru. its one of the best if not the best restaurant in the busan area - it serves roast duck served inside a sweet pumpkin and its one of the most delicious things i've ever tasted. |

If i were you, I would try to live in haeundae New Town and take the bus to Gijang everyday. new Town is a lot more foreign friendly. Unless you are looking for a more authentic korean experience, which would mean Gijang is for you. |

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.
I'm not sure what to do with this one. This school in Gijang is brand new and hasn't even opened the doors yet, which has left me a little worried.
I have been offered another position in Downtown Busan with a chain school but I seem to be leaning towards the school in Gijang at the moment! If i'm honest i'm not sure that Busan would be for me so maybe it would be for the best to be on the outskirts. My preferred locations were Namhae, Geoje, Tongyeung and Yeosu, however, decent jobs seems to be few and far between around those specific locations.
Is there really nothing in Gijang?
Thanks again.

There's a Lotteria. And a few bus stops. A home plus...eh...a bakery.....
That's about it. |

Hi again,
I was just thinking, if I had a scooter, would that make life in Gijang any easier in terms of accesibility to food shops, book stores, markets, gym, coast etc etc ?
Thanks again.

Having a scooter would not necessarily be convenient. Everything in Gigang is within walking distance. Going to Busan would require a bus, coming home late at night, early in the morning would require a taxi. |

Hi
I asked about this and they stated that they would be happy to arrange an apartment near Haeundae! If the school negotiate a couple more points, I think I will finally be in Korea early January.
Where would be the best place to look around Haeundae that is not too hectic?
Thanks again.
