A hagwon I am negotiating with has given me a contract stating the following:

E.Tax: Korean income tax will be deducted from the salary according to the Korean tax law(currently 4 %).

is this correct? I read in a few other threads that the income tax is only 1.6-1.9%, and I don't want to get nickled and dimed every month.

It is incorrect.

The tax calculator is here. It is in units of 1,000 won so 2 mil would be entered as 2000. (,000)

Every job I'm being offered has it in their contract that income tax is 3-5%. When I tried to ask the recruiter where that number is coming from and even sent them the above link, they told me that number wasn't for foreigners, wasn't updated, wasn't for all the income tax, etc. I don't know what to do about it, since I'm deciding between a few jobs right now and every one of them is the same in regards to income tax... hmmm.

Seriously, this isn't that big of a deal b/c you can file and get a refund at the end of the year. Does it really hurt you that much to lose that 10,000 a month or so if you're gonna get it back?

Do we get income tax back?? I'm on a 2 year income tax exemption at the moment, but will soon start paying. So, is it possible to reclaim it?

10,000 a month?
My haggie job charged me 5%. Thats +70,000 a month on 2.0 mill.
And if you are being overcharged, you can be pretty damn sure the boss knows to the won what the tax should be, and is pocketing the rest. So when you go back for that extra 70,000 a month, or 840,000 over a year, it just aint' there.
