Do you prefer all the responses to a thread to respond to the original post, or do you prefer the conversation to develop organically in response to each previous response? Or are both dandy?
I hope the inclusion of the loaded (dance, f*cker, dance!) word "organically" doesn't bias anyone... |

I prefer Usenet, where you could break a diverging thought off into its own threads. |

An original poster has no right to control the direction of a discussion.
Just as conversations in real life take tangents, so do threads.
That's a natural phenomenon of life. |

Keep the topic on the OP. If what you have to say is so important, it deserves its own title. |

It depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm in a pissed-at-the-world, I-want-to-make-random-strangers-feel-dire-emotional-pain kind of mood, then I'll say that only idiots stray from the OP if I read something that diverges from the OP and annoys me. But most of the time, I prefer the conversational mode. What comes up, comes up! |

If the OP has legs, it will run over any divergences. Otherwise it will not.
Simple really.

Excuse me. This thread is not about life's natural phenomena, back on topic please. |
