Do you prefer all the responses to a thread to respond to the original post, or do you prefer the conversation to develop organically in response to each previous response? Or are both dandy?

I hope the inclusion of the loaded (dance, f*cker, dance!) word "organically" doesn't bias anyone...

I prefer Usenet, where you could break a diverging thought off into its own threads.

An original poster has no right to control the direction of a discussion.

Just as conversations in real life take tangents, so do threads.

That's a natural phenomenon of life.

Keep the topic on the OP. If what you have to say is so important, it deserves its own title.

It depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm in a pissed-at-the-world, I-want-to-make-random-strangers-feel-dire-emotional-pain kind of mood, then I'll say that only idiots stray from the OP if I read something that diverges from the OP and annoys me. But most of the time, I prefer the conversational mode. What comes up, comes up!

If the OP has legs, it will run over any divergences. Otherwise it will not.

Simple really.

Excuse me. This thread is not about life's natural phenomena, back on topic please.
