You're right! The rape and infection of a girl is two orders of magnitude worse (works out to 190 tortured and murdered seals). The killing of a human (any human) is three orders of magnitude worse. the exact figure is difficult to calculate, so 1000 dead seals is only an estimate. Likely, it's equivalent to 999 or 1,081 or some other number.

An HIV infection isn't a death sentence anymore. Magic Johnson likely is more healthy than any of us.

Yeah, somehow I don't think that girl has the funds Magic has. Certainly I don't expect to see her mother (who I doubt is brimming with cash) helping.

ChopChaeJoe, I don't know if Magic Johnson is the best comparison. Choose an average nobody in NZ with HIV and then compare. And anyway, while perhaps not a death sentence, it makes the girl's life pretty crap. Even if she gets past the rape, she will not really be able to have a normal sexual relationship, and certainly will not be able to have children. Plus add in the stigma that is still attached to HIV even in western countries, factor in that she is only 13 and is going to have to grow up with the disease. I think you need to add a few seals into the equation since this is more than rape.

And where exactly does your maths of human worth come from? Does each baby come with a tag stating it's value in baby seals?

Congratulations on turning the thread into a competition between child abuse and animal abuse. (CCJ's "math equation" only illustrates the stupidity of your way of thinking.) ... Oh well, there was no real discussion of the story CLG linked to, but at least you succeeded in putting animal people in their place. Rolling Eyes

Hollywoodaction: That sworn statement you cited lacks credibility. Anyone who would torture an animal for money would have no problem making a false declaration, I'm sure. Were the "photographers" in question ever caught and identified? Can you prove they were animal activists?

I didn't think so.

Hi Madowlspeaks, welcome to Dave's. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? From looking at your short posting history it seems that you wouldn't eat a chimpanzee, but do enjoy milk with your coffee. Did you mean soy milk? How did you get interested in semiotics, BTW?

One human life is also equivalent to 16 chimpanzees or 28 billion insects, give or take.

A whole lot of rhesus monkeys (human-death equivalent 47) were killed to make the olio vaccine, but considering the lives saved, it was a moral endeavor.

I never intended to turn it into any sort of competition. No one should have made a comparison between the two things. If madowlspeaks had posted his/her link and merely stated "this sucks too" this thread would probably be no more than a page long.

Ummm... I fail to see how someone elses equation illustrates anything about my way of thinking. Unless you think eating meat creates some sort of hive mind among carnivores and by "you" you are referring to the Great Carnivorous Overmind as opposed to me personally. Could you please clear that up for me?

Note: You can take that last "me" to mean me, Zoidberg, or me, The GCO. Either's fine.

I think what he meant Zoid is that there was more than a little sarcasm in Chop's equations that you managed to miss completely. Not that I never do myself Laughing .

Yeah cool, I did miss it, until his last post then I got it. Better late then never. Embarassed

I think though, if you read a little red dog, you'll conclude this is probably not what she meant, and my question about the Overmind is still valid. Wink

I don't get that one. If he took money, then it wasn't a false declaration, was it?

The film was produced by the IFAW. It says so in the article I linked.

Oh, okay I will make sure that next time my post's, my thinking and my plays on sematics conform to the way Zoidberg sees fit.

REALLY Rolling Eyes

Red Dog you should be happy that animal people are looking out for your behind. In the case you haven't noticed, dog meat is a considered a delicacy in this country you know....

but then again, dog meat is not really the topic here and Zoidberg might get angry that someone is talking about anything other than what he/she/it wants people to talk about Laughing

Monkeys met their Deaths at the Hands of men... Truth is the US Military likes to test small arms and explosives on large Monkeys as well\

But, these monkeys do not know they are doomed and are well kept before they are slain (plenty of Skeletal Muscle to Sub for a Big Rus Soldier)

However North Korea tests Gas on PEOPLE and these people may not be quite so happy about it. While the Monkeys deep inside know that men are their Masters and if even the twenty of them die to save one Polio kid then it is a price they will pay and still be happy to hand the kid a golden banana in Heaven when they meet next to Aslan

Anyhow, I have this to say:

FACE ME THE NEW LORD OF MONKEYS

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=740851050

For if a small child would also be spared by my Great Bulk taking the slug I'd be Front and Center Willing- But that will not happen as I do not think I will teach in America again... well maybe ... so I can Get some Caps busted in me when Some GTA brain washed 13 year who old comes to school with an Uzi a nine and homemade pipe bombs.

THe whole point of this post is that if you could speak to animals they would say they were happy to die for men and there was no better purpose for them

Next time you go to a farm look deep into a pig's eyes he will speak to you- Yes we pigs will munch a kid if he jumps in our pen - but it is only because we want to be slain sooner so our fat can please the glutting humans who consume us.

I often wonder why Monkeys do not say this as well apparently the Ape who learned sign language would get angry and call her owner a "dirty toilet" but it may be the ape did express a willingness to die for man but the scientist kept this secrete as she did not want the truth to be known.

Yet I still think it is cruel to kill an animal with such unnecessary pain.

However, I do not think such skinners should be slain for their crime.

But as I said before I sometimes think Islam law with all it's obvious faults (and I am NOT an Islam believer) still often has some fine ideas when dealing with rape - that is they kill the one who does it - a great deterrent and prevents the fellows from 'reforming' in prison and coming out to do it again.
