So the end of the school year is fast approaching for public schools here in Korea. I've been wanting to do something other than a 'party' or a regular class lesson for the last sessions with my kids this winter, but I'm falling short on interesting/memorable things to do. I'm wondering what other teachers are doing with their last classes... feel free to share, I'd be happy to hear anything.

I'm sitting with my head down on my desk while students set the school on fire.

Either that, or giving them a survey that reviews the class and my teaching (They're high schoolers..wouldn't do that with the young'uns).

Then I made a word search that doesn't give the words you're looking for but clues. The clues are definitions of vocabulary words that we learned this quarter. I may also make a crossword puzzle or two based on stories and poems that we read. You can find these puzzle makers online.

On their way out the door, a small goody bag will be waiting for them with a note from me telling them to enjoy their vacation and I'll see them in the spring.

Then I'm going home and getting drunk. For six weeks. Kidding. Kind of.

For my high school classes (only a couple today and tomorrow...) I'm showing the only Christmas DVD I could find with the "Cinema English" booklet that translates it into Korean so I could preteach some key vocabulary words and then just let 'em watch or sleep through the dang thing while eating candy canes (hey, I don't claim to be a very good teacher...) The one I got is "Elf" with Will Farrell (hopefully it contains no really risque stuff - I've only seen a few minutes of it...)

Of course, I would have preferred to show "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" ...

Check out benjerry.com, the ice cream guys site. They have "fun stuff" like word puzzles and a town you can print out and put together. My high school kids are doing the word search today, when they finish they can play jenga. They are happy so far, and no fires.

I am not a fun teacher. I have prepared a presentation about Christmas around the world for the students. They watch the presentation, make notes and at the end I will ask questions.
The students who answer the questions correctly win candy.
