Education authorities in Kunsan, South Cholla Province, are investigating a teacher accused of ordering two of her sixth grade students to write in their blood as punishments for not doing their homework.
According to the parents of the students, the teacher told the two 13-year-old boys that they could either choose as punishment writing a blood statement, a letter of regret or cleaning the classroom for their failure to submit their homework.
After the teacher briefly left the classroom, the two boys cut about a centimeter into their right index fingers with pencil knives and began writing in their own blood on sheets of paper.
The incident caused chaos, with 33 of the boys classmates screaming and bolting out of the classroom. The teacher immediately took the two boys to the school nurse.
In a phone call with Yonhap News Agency, the teacher said her comments were intended as verbal threats and she never meant to order her students to write statements in blood.

Isn't that header a bit misleading? The teacher gave them a choice, and they chose the most dire, probably for a laugh.
As for leaving them alone in the classroom, I was never allowed to do this as an elementary teacher back in Canada, but I've seen Korean teachers serenely turn their backs on 40 seven-year-olds, so that part of the story shouldn't be held against her. |

A centimeter in or a centimeter long cut? Big difference.
I have suggested writing with a bloody finger when students pulled the "teacher no pencil" whine. I guess I will rethink that now. |

Seems really strange that they wouldn't listen to her when she told them to do their homework but when she tells them they can write in their own blood as punishment they choose to listen.
I feel bad for the teacher. I truly doubt she actually meant for them to do that and probably feels awful about the whole thing. I took the cm thing to mean 1cm deep but looking at my own index finger I think it might have gone right through to the other side. |

1) The most important thing you have to remember about the Korean news agencies is that they're nuts. Do NOT count on all the facts in this story being true (or precise).
2) The kids could chose between cleaning the class, writing a letter and writing in blood? What kind of retarded kids would choose to write in blood. Perhaps the parents should be embarrassed that they raised such stupid kids....
geez. |

Nothing much will happen to the teacher - she will just be embarrased for a couple of weeks.....
Different story though - if it had been a foreign teacher.......
a foreign teacher would have been attacked by a mob of angry parents and SBS would be on the spot filming and all foreign teachers would then be accused of being sadists and ........................... |
