I can think of a few which are mostly Japanese:
- Akira
- Ghost in a shell 2
- Final fantasy VII - advent children
Can you recommend others? |

I've heard Howl's Moving Castle is good, haven't seen it.
Princess Mononoke isn't bad.
Spirited Away
Metropolis
Cowboy Bebop is pretty cool (series and movie.)
Neon Genesis Evangelion is ok (series.)
Transformers: The Movie
A Scanner Darkly (Sort of animation/live action.)
The Hobbit
Well, that's off the top of my head. |

| Charlotte's Web. If that doesn't make you cry, then not even a legless baby roasted in an oven with fresh parsley sprinkled on it will bring a tear to your eye! |

| Thanks guys. I was thinking more in line with awesome special effect animation. I came across "Elephant's dream" which is outstanding if you want to test your LCD screen. |

| I seem to recall that Titan A.E. had some interesting effects in it. |

Check out a french movie called Renaissance. To get an idea of the style, it's a split between A Scanner Darkly and Sin City.
Here's a preview: http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/renaissance/
I saw Ghost in the Shell a month ago - amazing!! |

| The new Appleseed movie was pretty cool. I really dig the Samuri Champloo series, same guys that did Cowboy Beebop. |

Thanks for the link. I tried accessing it via Firefox and IE but to no avail. The stupid Apple site just closes Firefox and forces me to download Quicktime in IE.
EDITED : Damn firefox is awesome. When the browser closed/crashed it restored all the webpages that I had opened including this one and the message that I was about to send. |

That recovery option in Firefox was new with 2.0, I love it too!
As for animation films, my favourite is Wonderful Days. It was made in Japan by a Korean and has a good storyline and beautiful graphics. Ghost in a Shell is okay, but I found the storyline to be really wanting and the ending of the first one frustrating, kind of like the Matrix 2 with their famous "to be continued", right as the movie was really starting to gain momentum. |

I gather most of you must be talking about Ghost in a shell the first movie. The second one is more of an eye candy, more artistic and even stranger than the Matrix story plot.
Watching Samurai Champloo, funnier but more serious than Rounin Kenshin. Great stuff.
Another animated movie I would recommend is - A chinese ghost story, about a young man who falls in love with a ghost. Kind of reminds me of spirited away. |

Read Or Die, Spriggan, Ninja Scroll and Samurai X are all right even though they're a bit old. Some slightly newer movies include Neon Genesis Evangelion, Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfathers.
Even though they're not movies, you can always check out GONZO series like Full Metal Panic, Last Exile and Samurai 7. Hellsing Ultimate also looks nice. |

Yes, I was talking about the first Ghost in a Shell in my post. The second one (Innocence), is just a lacking in storyline, repeats a lot of stuff from the first movie, BUT looks a lot better. Meh!
I haven't seen Samurai Champloo yet, but I have been craving to. |

| Who's seen Macross Plus? A 4-part series or edited together into a movie. As a teen I saw parts 1-3 on TV and missed part 4. I was intrigued to see the ending so I bought the series (and was a little disappointed by the ending), and still like to go back and watch it once and a while. |
